What Is a Case Assistant?
A case assistant plays a supporting role for lawyers and other case managers as they prepare cases for litigation, trial, arbitration, or resolution. A career as a case assistant does not require you to have a college degree, though many employers prefer candidates have some prior legal training or experience. To excel as a case assistant, you should have superb communications skills, familiarity with legal language, and a familiarity with legal proceedings.

| Work Environment | Law firms, courts, insurance companies, government agencies | Law firms, corporate legal departments, government agencies |
| Job Responsibilities | Supporting case preparation, managing documents, scheduling | Legal research, drafting documents, assisting attorneys |
| Industry Usage | Commonly used in legal support roles for case management | More advanced legal tasks, often with more responsibility |
While both roles support legal teams, a Case Assistant typically handles administrative and case management tasks, whereas a Paralegal performs more substantive legal work like research and document drafting.
