Position Description

ASPIRA Charter High School is seeking a highly motivated High School Special Education Teacher/Case Manager - Social Studies to provide high-quality instruction and case management services for students with disabilities in grades 9-12.

The successful candidate will provide specially designed instruction and academic support within inclusive, small-group, and individualized settings while collaborating closely with general education teachers, related service providers, families, and members of the Education Enrichment Team. The teacher will also serve as a case manager for assigned students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), ensuring that services, accommodations, goals, progress monitoring, and required documentation are implemented in accordance with students' IEPs and applicable federal and state requirements.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, standards-aligned Social Studies instruction to students with and without disabilities in grades 9-12 through co-teaching, push-in/inclusion, small-group, and other instructional models based on student and school needs and IEP requirements.
• Provide specially designed instruction aligned with students' individual academic, behavioral, functional, and transition needs.
• Serve as case manager for an assigned caseload of students with disabilities.
• Develop, review, revise, and monitor high-quality, compliant IEPs in collaboration with students, families, teachers, related service providers, and other members of the IEP team.
• Schedule and facilitate annual IEP meetings, amendment meetings, reevaluation meetings, and other required meetings within established timelines.
• Monitor implementation of IEP services, accommodations, modifications, supports, and supplementary aids across educational settings.
• Collect, analyze, and maintain data related to IEP goals and student performance and use that data to inform instruction and educational decision-making.
• Provide regular progress reporting on students' IEP goals in accordance with required timelines.
• Maintain accurate and timely special education records, documentation, and case management files in accordance with school, state, and federal requirements.
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, academic performance, IEP implementation, attendance, behavior, and other areas affecting student success.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to differentiate instruction, provide appropriate accommodations and modifications, and increase student access to grade-level curriculum.
• Participate in the evaluation and reevaluation process by providing relevant academic, behavioral, observational, and progress-monitoring data.
• Collaborate with school psychologists, related service providers, counselors, administrators, and other members of the Education Enrichment Team throughout the evaluation and IEP process.
• Support students in developing the academic skills, executive functioning skills, self-advocacy, and independence necessary for success in high school and postsecondary settings.
• Monitor students' progress toward graduation requirements, including course completion and credit attainment, and collaborate with appropriate staff when concerns arise.
• Be accountable for students' academic growth, achievement, and progress toward IEP goals.
• Maintain a positive, inclusive, culturally responsive, and achievement-oriented learning environment.
• Reflect on instructional and case management practices, identify areas for professional growth, and respond constructively to feedback.
• Participate in collaborative planning, professional development, department and grade-level activities, school-wide initiatives, and other school functions.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with FERPA, IDEA, and applicable school policies.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Social Studies Education, or a comparable field from an accredited college or university.
• Knowledge, coursework, and appropriate certification in the education of exceptional learners.
• Possesses or is eligible for a valid State of Delaware Teaching License.
• Possesses or is eligible for appropriate Delaware certification in Special Education and Secondary Social Studies.
• Knowledge of high school Social Studies content and applicable state academic standards.
• Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504, and applicable Delaware special education regulations and procedures.
• Knowledge of the IEP development, implementation, progress-monitoring, and evaluation processes.
• Strong instructional, organizational, communication, and classroom management skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple compliance timelines and case management responsibilities.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and other school personnel.
• Ability to reflect upon professional practice and respond positively to constructive feedback.
• Experience working with high school students with disabilities is preferred.
• Experience with co-teaching and inclusive instructional practices is preferred.
