Job description

SUMMARY:
The Mortgage Loan Assistant (MLA) provides support for the entire loan origination process and collaborates with Mortgage Loan Originators and Pipeline & Delivery Manager to ensure a smooth mortgage transaction. This MLA is also responsible for working with the origination team to ensure compliance related deadlines are met related to ECOA and HMDA for withdrawals and rejected loans that require Carter Bank adverse action and/or HMDA reporting. This role requires both a sales and operational mindset.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Reviews the initial loan application, supporting documentation, and credit authorization for accuracy and completion with the customer
  • Keeps current understanding of all loan program guidelines, pricing, policies and procedures
  • Provides weekly status updates of files in progress to MLO, Referral Partner and Client
  • Processes borrower documents in an accurate and timely manner following proper internal protocol and procedures
  • Communicates and partners closely with operations to ensure a smooth and accurate loan process
  • Provide some back up support for Mortgage Loan Originators who are out of the office
  • Perform post-closing follow up with clients to answer any questions regarding first payments and servicing
  • Assist with monitoring pipelines for key target dates to ensure deadlines and objectives are met
  • Provide assistance in monitoring information for HMDA/Adverse Action related reporting
  • Assist with identifying relevant bank products and services based on customer needs
  • Serve as an ongoing support point of contact for Mortgage Loan Originators and Pipeline Delivery Manager by performing various duties as assigned to maintain an exceptional client experience

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or equivalence required
  • Prior banking experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Intermediate written and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate understanding of federal and state laws and regulations related to mortgage lending
  • Intermediate knowledge of mortgage guidelines, pricing, policies, and procedures
  • Intermediate knowledge of bank products and services
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Intermediate proficiency with lending software
  • Intermediate organizational skills
  • Intermediate adaptability skills
  • Basic analysis skills
  • Basic understanding of credit underwriting guidelines
  • Basic understanding of financial documents

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Standing, walking, bending and stooping required
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time and use a computer
  • Must be able to occasionally move or lift up to 10 pounds
  • May be asked to work supplemental hours periodically
  • Limited travel required occasionally during and after business hours

Hourly Pay Range: $18.93 - $29.60
