As our Cardiac Monitor Tech II, you will be a vital part of CommonSpirit Health's Virtual Hospital in Phoenix, AZ, delivering essential virtual cardiac monitoring services to patients across the United States. This complex Level II Cardiopulmonary Technician position focuses on higher acuity patient care, performing remote surveillance for multiple locations, specific to cardio-pulmonary rhythms via a central monitoring station.

Every day you will utilize highly advanced IT technology to continuously monitor up to 64 patients, expertly recognizing and recording potentially dangerous rhythm changes and arrhythmias. You will accurately follow command center policy to promptly notify local RN staff of any critical changes, adhering to established standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements. You'll also serve as a mentor and preceptor for Level I Cardiopulmonary Techs.

To be successful in this role, you will: demonstrate a strong ability to accurately recognize cardiac rhythms and follow established protocols in notifying local RN staff. Your commitment to proper communication channels in routine and emergency situations, along with striving to improve patient outcomes and department metrics, is crucial. Your experience in a centralized monitoring unit will be a significant asset.

  • Monitors patient’s cardiac rhythms and/or oxygen saturation using appropriate cardio-pulmonary monitoring equipment; obtains a baseline ECG strip on all monitored patients according to department guidelines; records and posts cardiac strips following established procedures. Updates and verifies patient data in the information system; maintains unit/department-specific records as assigned.
  • Recognizes rhythms with the potential to alter the patient’s physiology and obtains a documentary ECG strip; immediately reports all arrhythmias to the RN responsible for the patient following established protocols.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the technical operation and capabilities of the central monitoring station; maintains alarm systems according to established protocols and responds appropriately to monitor alarms; identifies/troubleshoots routine technical problems with the monitors and sends work orders for maintenance/clinical engineering repairs as necessary.
  • Handles incoming and outgoing communications, answers questions, and assists staff per established procedures.
  • Provides/gives accurate shift reports to other monitor technicians, relating to patient’s condition and rhythm status consistently at every shift change.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all parties involved.

Required

  • Three (3) months of post-secondary education/training in regard to a cardiopulmonary related field (e.g., cardiac monitoring, EKG technology, Emergency medicine, nursing, exercise science) OR

  • Graduation from one of the following accredited programs, including EKG Interpretation: Nursing Assistant (or military medical specialty training), or Medical Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) AND

  • Minimum two (2) years of recent (within the past year) related healthcare work experience that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge and abilities. 

  • Successful completion of a Basic EKG test is required within 90 days of hire.  

Preferred:

  • Graduation from the following accredited programs, including EKG Interpretation (Monitor Technician OR CRAT or CCT)  

  • Associate’s degree in EKG Technology. 

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience is preferred.

  • Two (2) years of work experience as a monitor tech or patient care technician
