A cardiovascular technician assists a cardiovascular physician with the treatment of patients with cardiac illnesses or conditions. In this role, you operate specialized devices, including ultrasound equipment and fluoroscopes, to take extensive diagnostic images and data that the physician uses to assess a patient’s condition. Depending on your employer, you may also assist in invasive cardiology procedures, such as inserting catheters into the artery; you prepare the patient by explaining what they can expect before, during, and after, then you prepare them for the procedure. A physician performs the procedure, but you may be in the operating room to assist when necessary.
