Job description


PURPOSE
This position will support IP's performance goals by managing all aspects of the mill's engineering needs and responsibilities. This position will guarantee the appropriate internal and external resources are identified and readily accessible to accomplish mill and business specific requirements and initiatives, and will serve as a key contributing member to the mill's lead team.
Demonstrate leadership in the areas of safety as a core value and support broad-based participation in the mill's safety processes, employee engagement, and support the vision and organizational values of the Newport Mill.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
The key accountabilities listed below are not to be considered all-inclusive; a team member may be required to perform additional tasks, as directed, and based on changing business needs of the company.
  1. Provide active, visible support for the mill safety program as the highest priority. Lead Newport Mill to an injury-free work environment through leadership and role modeling safe behavior and personal attention to and direct involvement in safety activities and maintaining a clean and orderly work environment.
  2. Primary responsibility for leadership of the engineering areas, including applicable REACH Engineers, Project Engineer, process control, and capital investment projects.
  3. Will be responsible for developing/implementing 5 year mill capital plan, working closely with team members to ensure success.
  4. Development of the budget, strategic and capital planning process.
  5. Help develop, demonstrate and support an organizational culture based upon values of empowerment, high involvement, and participative work force in a customer and quality-focused organization.
  6. Ensure team member relations efforts and engagement processes are in place to maximize motivation and the desire to work at Newport Mill.
  7. Assists other team leaders and/or team members in the mill as necessary to minimize downtime and maintain quality.
  8. Coaches safety in others with a commitment to developing and maintaining positive employee relations.
  9. Fullfill area specific 5S expectations(5 Minute 5S Checklists Replenishment of tools and supplies, 5S Audits,etc)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • Individual must be able to wear all required safety equipment.
  • Physically challenging mill environment; ability to walk, continuously stand, climb stairs minimum 50% of the time.
  • Working environment is 24/7. Ability to be on-call as needed and/or required, including mill leadership coverage for weekends.

KEY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a manufacturing lead position, preferably in a paper mill.
  • Experience developing and implementing annual productivity plans.
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills; problem solving, planning, priority setting, time management, and presentation and training delivery skills
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  1. Demonstrated leadership to develop and maintain a high level of teamwork and cooperation between maintenance and other production teams.

Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, pulp and paper science preferred.
  • Five years of engineering experience, leadership and management experience in a quality-focused manufacturing environment.
  • Preferred experience in strategic planning and budgeting process.
  • Demonstrated project management experience and working on large, complex capital projects
  • Demonstrated leadership skills combined with technical paper-making knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to set expectations with stretch goals and measure work to determine degree of goal attainment.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist in IP maintenance initiatives and guide team(s) to successful completion of tasks and/or projects.
