Job Title:ย Business Development Manager,ย North Americaย 

Division:ย Ornua Ingredients Ireland (OII)ย 

Reports To:ย Commercialย Managerย OIIย ย 

Location:ย Hilbertย 

Ornua is a leading dairy co-operative which sells premium dairy products globally on behalf of its Member Co-operatives, Ireland's dairy processors and, in turn, Irish dairy farmers.ย ย 

Ornua has revenues of 3.4 billion and is supported by a global team of approximately 2,800 employees. The Groupย operatesย as a commercial organisation across 10 business units, including 12 production facilitiesย locatedย in Europe, North America, the Middleย Eastย and Africa.ย ย 

The commercial organisationย is responsible forย the marketing and sales ofย Ornua'sย consumer brands including Ireland's most successful food export: Kerrygold. Consumer markets are served by production facilities in Ireland,ย Germanyย and the UK and by in-market Sales & Marketing Teams in Asia, Germany, Ireland, MEA, Poland, Spain, rest of Europe and North and Latin America.ย ย 

It also manages the procurement of Irish and non-Irish dairy products, the sale of dairy ingredients to food manufacturing and foodservice customers globally, and the implementation of de-risking and trading strategies to manage market volatility. These activities are supported by production facilities and in-market teams in Europe, North America, the Middleย Eastย and Africa.ย 

The Roleย 

Theย Business Development Managerย will haveย responsibilityย for existingย customer commercial management and new business generation for Irish powderย ingredientsย (casein, caseinate and MPC's) in North Americaย (USA & Canada). The successful candidate will lead business development in North America forย Ornua Ingredients Ireland and our Irish Supplier Members.ย As Business Development Manager,ย they will also support otherย global ingredient businessย unitsย with the strategic purchase of USA powders and cheeses as the opportunities arise.ย ย This is an excitingย new role, reporting into the Commercialย Manager, withย ongoing strategicย discussions withย the Managing Director for Ornua Ingredients Ireland.ย ย 

Key Areas of Responsibilityย 

  • Develop & Implement a Sales & Route to Marketย Strategy for Northย Americaย with a specific focus on:ย 

  • Acid casein/caseinate usage within snacking,ย nutritional's,ย and beverage categoriesย ย 

  • Identifyย the relevant brand-ownersย andย primary producers within these categories.ย ย 

  • Identifyย the co-packers employed to produce these productsย 

  • Rennet casein within processed, imitation and cheese powder categoriesย 

  • Identifyย the relevant brand-ownersย andย primary producers within these categories.ย 

  • Formulate a relationship building, business generation plan to grow our business organically in the region (mainly USA & Canada)ย over the next 5 years.ย 

  • Identifyย a "short list" of B2B customer contacts (focused, sustainable opportunities) and produce a detailed customer plan onย theย strategyย requiredย to deliver volume and value.ย 

  • Lead &ย participateย in trade fairs/customer presentations to promoteย theย Ornua values and our global ingredientsย portfolio.ย 

  • Review our existing customer network & make an early assessment and recommendation of their capability and whether we continue to supplyย to the customer.ย 

  • Manage the commercial and operational business in line with OII andย Ornua Group policies.ย 

  • Provide input intoย theย wider OII customer development strategy:ย 

  • Apply customer segmentation & CRM to improve customer understanding and optimise relationships.ย 

  • Focus onย extractingย more value from our increased volumes.ย 

  • Contribute to our global customer initiatives as we move toward a more commercially connected model for important customer management.ย 

  • Support other projects and ad hoc requests asย requiredย 

  • Leverage the existing procurement and tradingย expertiseย within Ornua Ingredients North America,ย toย identifyย and develop trading opportunities for US/Canadian product for sale into our global Ingredients export markets (mainly supportingย theย OII customer base in SEย Asia & International Business Unitsย in MENA).ย 

  • Liaiseย closely with theย Ornua Trading team to provide market intelligenceย andย gatherย information from the market to better inform global sales policy decisions.ย
