Job description

About The Role

URB Cannabis is a fast-paced, dynamic, multi-location cannabis company operating across Michigan with multiple retail locations, farms, grows, and a corporate office. We're looking for a people-first HR Generalist to be the SME in everything HR as well as the connective tissue between our employees and leadership. We need someone who can move fast, stay organized, and bring calm, clear thinking to a dynamic environment. This role is based out of our corporate office in Warren, MI and is a great opportunity for an HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced, heavily regulated environment and wants broad, hands-on experience across every HR function

What You'll Own

  • Manage full-cycle recruitment across all departments and locations — from sourcing and screening to interviews and offer letters.
  • Process weekly payroll end-to-end, ensuring accuracy and compliance across all company entities.
  • Lead onboarding and offboarding, covering everything from new hire orientation and documentation to final day processing.
  • Administer employee benefits, including open enrollment, day-to-day questions, and coordination with providers and third party administrators.
  • Enforce company policies consistently across locations, escalate issues appropriately, and maintain thorough documentation.
  • Coach and support managers on performance conversations, corrective action, and team dynamics.
  • Serve as the primary HR point of contact for employees across corporate, retail, and cultivation teams.
  • Occasional travel to Michigan store/grow locations to provide on-the-ground HR support as needed.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in an HR generalist or HR coordinator role
  • A four-year degree is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to be fully onsite between standard business hours.
  • Exceptional communicator with the ability to engage effectively across all levels; from store associates to senior leadership
  • Hands-on payroll processing experience; familiarity with PrismHR is a bonus
  • Working knowledge of Michigan employment law and HR compliance requirements
  • Experience supporting multi-site or multi-entity organizations
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills; you can shift gears quickly, manage competing demands, and keep things moving without a perfect playbook.
  • Comfortable navigating difficult conversations, pushback, and ambiguity without taking it personally
  • Ability and willingness to travel to Michigan store locations.
  • A genuine interest in people and a natural ability to build trust across a diverse workforce
  • Background in cannabis, retail, or other high-volume, multi-location industries is highly preferred.
  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent HR certification is a plus.
