We are looking for a talented and passionate individual to join our Mission Alignment team as Camp Ranger who will support the safe, functional, and well-maintained operation of Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey's outdoor properties, with primary responsibility for The OVAL (Maplewood, NJ) and Camp DeWitt (Hillsborough, NJ). This role ensures that facilities, grounds, and equipment are maintained to a high standard to support day camp operations, rental groups, and year-round programming.
The Camp Ranger also provides support to other council properties as needed, including assisting at the sleepaway camp (Middleville, NJ) during the off-season and supporting operational needs during the cookie program season (e.g., Cookie Cupboards and Mega Drops).
Here's What You Will Be Doing...

    • Perform routine maintenance tasks and repairs to ensure proper upkeep of property, buildings, equipment, and grounds.
    • Monitor Camp usage calendars and maintain cleanliness and readiness of camp facilities, including cabins, tents, and multi-purpose buildings (sweeping, mopping, cleaning restrooms, sinks, showers, countertops, and tables).
    • Assist with the opening and closing of camp properties, including winterization of cabins and facilities for the off-season (November-March).
    • During the off-season, support maintenance and improvement projects at The OVAL, Camp DeWitt and other GSHNJ properties as needed.
  • Safety & Security
    • Conduct routine security checks of property, buildings, and grounds.
    • Identify and report safety or security concerns promptly to the Maintenance Property Manager.
    • Help ensure all camp environments remain safe, secure, and compliant with organizational standards.
  • Project & Vendor Coordination
    • Partner with the Maintenance Property Manager to identify and execute improvement projects, including obtaining quotes, procuring supplies/equipment, and supporting project completion.
    • Supervise and coordinate outside contractors and vendors as needed.
    • Collaborate with representatives from the Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs to advance GSHNJ's priorities in maintaining and improving The OVAL.
  • Operations & Logistics Support
    • Assist with the storage, organization, and distribution of camp supplies and equipment.
    • Support camp operations, including assisting with cookouts and other on-site activities as needed.
    • Attend staff trainings and meetings as scheduled.
  • Cross-Property & Seasonal Support
    • Serve as the primary facilities support for The OVAL and Camp DeWitt, year-round.
    • Travel between multiple GSHNJ properties, including The OVAL, Camp DeWitt, and other council sites, to support maintenance, operations, and program needs.
    • Provide support to the sleepaway camp during the off-season (winter months) as needed.
    • Assist with council-wide operational needs, including the cookie program (e.g., Cookie Cupboards and Mega Drops).
  • Other duties as assigned
