Nature & Purpose of Position
Job Title: University Camp Challenge Course Facilitator/ Camp host
Hours: University Camp operates during weekdays and weekends. Hours vary based on rentals.
Primarily a Summer Job with inconsistent work during the fall/spring semester.
Job Function: Assist with University Camp rentals which includes the following:
Challenge Course Facilitator
- Greet guests as they arrive to the challenge course and ensure waivers are filled out.
- Go through safety checks, setup what is being used during the rental, and work with staff on various roles and positions.
- Go through the challenge course safety brief with guests and help put on harnesses and helmets.
- Facilitate activities such as zipline, big swing, power pole, low elements, and full circuit course.
- Ensure groups listen, follow safety guidelines, and provide a safe/welcoming environment for guests.
- Provide care and supervision in the event of an emergency.
Camp Host
- Welcome guests to University Camp and go over camp rules, policies, and safety rules.
- Ensure water jugs are filled and placed around camp, pick up/ take out trash in facilities, and assist with occasional cleaning.
- Help with camp turnover which includes cleaning cabins, replacing paper products, and sweeping/mopping restrooms.
- Will provide customer services for rental groups.
- Oversee groups and ensure they are following University Camp and SHSU rules and policies.
Training
- Attend trainings.
- Complete all training required by human resources.
- Attend mandatory staff meetings.
Qualifications
- Comfortable at a height of up to 35' to facilitate high elements.
- Physically able to belay, work outside, and lift heavy equipment.
- CPR and First Aid Certified (within first six months).
- Staff should be competent to use hand tools and general cleaning equipment.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must successfully complete a 3-day training course.
Other Requirements for the Position
Must be able and willing to drive 16 miles to the SHSU University Camp located in Riverside, TX
