Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
This position seeks to hire work-study award students for the 2026-2027 academic year.
Student callers play a vital role in Chapman's fundraising success and in
strengthening relationships with our Chapman Family (alumni, parents,
friends). Students are the best ambassadors to speak about the Chapman
experience - because they're living it! Through our Phonathon program,
students will make a meaningful impact by fundraising for the Chapman
Fund, which supports student scholarships and the most pressing needs of
the Chapman community.
This position requires strong verbal and written communication skills, a
problem-solving mentality, the ability to think strategically in a fast-paced
environment, and a genuine passion for Chapman.
Joining the Phonathon team is an excellent opportunity to develop valuable communication and networking skills in a supportive, student-led environment-all while making a positive impact on the university.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as an ambassador to Chapman University by establishing an open and engaging line of communication between the university and its supporters.
  • Call constituents (alumni, parents, and friends of Chapman) to update demographic information, bond with constituents and ask for advice, and solicit support for the Chapman Fund.
  • Commit to a minimum of 6 hours per week and a maximum of 9 hours per week.
  • Handle personal information with extreme confidentiality.
  • Enjoy connecting with others students across campus.

Required Qualifications
  • Ability to speak confidently and positively about your Chapman experience
  • Strong verbal skills
  • Positive and optimistic attitude
  • Strong active listening skills
  • Be comfortable multi-tasking
  • Be able to apply feedback
  • Balance commitments (school, work, extra-curriculars, etc). The minimum number of hours required is 6 hours per week, and the maximum is 9 hours per week.

Tentative Fall Semester Hours:
  • Monday through Thursday:
    • 10-1:30 pm
    • 4-7:30 pm
  • Friday:
    • 12-7:30 pm

Desired Qualifications
  • Genuine enthusiasm for connecting with people and building relationships.
  • Comfortable and confident speaking to unknown constituents on the phone.
  • Ability to learn new systems (calling software, gift processing, etc)
  • Comfortable with data entry
  • Previous experience in sales/customer service.

Special Instructions to Applicants
  • Commit to a minimum of 6 hours per week and a maximum of 9 hours per week. Shifts are typically 3 hours long.
