Description
Taft Junior College was established on August 30, 1922 as part of the Taft Union High School District. Classes were first held on the high school campus. The school title officially became Taft College on July 1, 1954, and in September of 1956 a separate campus opened in the current location at 29 Cougar Court adjacent to the high school. The West Kern Community College District was later formed, and is a single-college-district under the guidance of a five-member Board of Trustees. With strong leadership, Taft College offers a robust academic program for its students, and is one of the finest small colleges around!
The student support and outreach worker work closely with student life and basic needs. They serve the campus in a broad capacity, assisting and supporting programs that directly impact student success. The student support and outreach worker directly support the Cougar Support Center, Student Center, and the food pantries located across the campus.
Work Study Responsibilities:
  • Managing all gaming equipment in the gaming area
  • Maintain cleanliness of student offices
  • Maintain the snack pantry in the student center
  • Help set-up and clean up all student events
  • Coordinate and assist with outreach efforts for support services
  • Attend job related training and committee meetings
  • Assist with student case files
  • Organize peer-to-peer support groups
  • Front desk support in the Student Center and/or Cougar Support Center
  • Clerical work as directed
  • Organize and manage food and clothing pantry
  • Serve students requesting items out of the cougar support center and student center
  • Stay up-to-date on new legislation and mandates associated with support services
  • Assist with data collection

  • Currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 units, in good standing, with Taft College.
