Overview: This person is responsible for supporting the Project Coordinator with the coordination, planning, and execution of the program deliverables. Responsibilities include engaging participants, providing culturally responsive education and resource navigation, overseeing volunteers/ interns, supporting food access messaging and trust-building community events, data management, assisting with grant reporting, community outreach, and assisting with CalFresh applications. Some certifications and training will be required. Current California driver's license and appropriate insurance coverage required. Will drive throughout the greater LA area.

 

Duties and Responsibilities (other duties as assigned):  

The Community Health Worker supports the Project Coordinator in coordinating, planning, and implementing program activities and deliverables. This role includes engaging community participants, overseeing volunteers and interns, providing culturally responsive health education, assisting with resource navigation, data management, assisting with grant reporting, community outreach, and assisting with CalFresh applications. Some certifications and training will be required. The Community Health Worker also supports food access messaging and helps build community trust through outreach and engagement activities. The Community Health Worker participates in outreach efforts to promote produce distribution events and assists with event implementation. Responsibilities include leading recipe demonstrations and taste tests during events while ensuring adherence to food safety guidelines, as well as completing administrative tasks as needed to support program operations. The Community Health Worker builds and maintains partnerships with organizations that serve justice-impacted individuals and distributes educational materials on local food access points and nutrition assistance programs. Additionally, the Community Health Worker participates in meetings, trainings, and ongoing evaluation activities led by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to support continuous program improvement. A valid California Department of Motor Vehicles driver's license and appropriate insurance coverage are required. The position requires driving throughout the Greater Los Angeles area.

Qualifications:   

High School diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree preferred.

Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities:  

Good interpersonal skills and ability to present in front of a group Fluency in Spanish (speaks, translate, read and write) is required Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 25 pounds occasionally Ability to be flexible and work in a changing environment Ability to work evenings and weekends is required Sensitivity to different cultures represented among members, staff and communities served.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

This position is employed through The University Corporation (TUC).

The anticipated hiring range: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

Time Base: Full - Time
