Café Services Manager

Responsible for the daily operation of The Café at the Frick, the Café Services Manager is a creative visionary who encapsulates deep culinary expertise, quality restaurant standards, a growth mindset, and the desire to lead a high performing team. This includes creating and executing a robust Frick-inspired rotating menu, managing all front of house operations, ensuring through data evaluation that all costs are maintained within acceptable margins, and delivering an exemplary experience to every guest of The Frick Pittsburgh. The Café Services Manager leads a team of around 10 part-time team members. Must have a commitment to fostering a workplace culture of Equity and Inclusion.

Salary Range: $51,373 – $64,216 based on experience

Cafe Management Responsibilities :

  • Manages Café operations and administration, and works to maintain high standards of excellence in conjunction with the Director of Enterprise and Visitor Services
  • Maintains the highest quality food service and safety standards at all times, adhering to all food service and safety standards, and Department of Health regulations
  • Plans and directs all food preparation and culinary activities (including alcohol service) in the Café and for various special events or programs as needed; this includes managing food carts (seasonal), boxed lunch/advance catering requests, and requests for pick-up/drop off for internal meetings
  • Regularly develops, prints, and posts new menus that are uniquely Frick inspired, curated using an artistic vision sparked by special exhibitions, Frick history, and Pittsburgh past and present, while adhering to costs, seasonal availability, dietary needs, and dining trends
  • Works with the Director of Enterprise and Visitor Services and members of the Learning and Visitor Experience team to develop new and creative specials, promotions, and pop-up events while leveraging the Café experience as an opportunity for on and offsite culinary programming; works with members of the Frick Leadership Team to develop, support, and execute events and internal programming
  • Responsible for the hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of all Café staff including point of sale system training, food service and preparation, customer service, open/close procedures, telephone etiquette, food and supply ordering, and food and kitchen cleanliness and safety standards
  • Ensures that all Café staff comply with the Café food safe food handling manual, all Health Department regulations, and RAMP certification
  • Works in conjunction with the Director of Enterprise and Visitor Services to prepare and maintain a budget and accurate revenue projections for the Café; controls and tracks all wages, food costs, beverage costs, and supply costs and submits reports to the Director of Enterprise and Visitor Services
  • Supervises or delegates the handling of all cash receipts and daily cash reports, maintains fiduciary responsibility for all transactions and deposits
  • Establishes and manages favorable vendor relationships with emphasis on supporting small, local, and minority owned businesses
  • Maintains Café appliances in good working order and makes recommendations for improvements and preventative maintenance
  • Work closely with the Marketing team to promote Café offerings, menu specials, and special events
  • Manage Café Point of Sale system to reflect current menu offerings with correct pricing both online and in house; maintain ability to troubleshoot point of sale system and other café equipment
  • Communicates regularly with the PLCB and Health Department to stay informed on current regulations and requirements
  • Schedules all café staff and assists with coverage for call-offs or breaks; works on café floor 2-3 days per week in conjunction with the Café Services Supervisor
  • Handle visitor inquiries, complaints, requests with exceptional service at all times
  • Must maintain valid ServeSafe and RAMP certifications at all times
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications :

  • Must have excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Minimum of 3 years of café or restaurant supervisory experience
  • Degree or background in culinary arts a plus
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Familiarity with inventory and Point of Sale systems
  • Sound financial and business management skills
  • Self-motivated, creative, and adaptable; strong problem-solving skills
  • Weekend and evening hours required
  • Clearance of a criminal background check
