Job description

Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Engineer to work as part of the Data Center Operations Team. The position will support and maintain enterprise, mission-critical data center environments based on site in Richardson, Texas. The ideal candidate will possess strong troubleshooting expertise, hands-on cabling experience, and the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams. This role requires a detail-oriented professional who can manage infrastructure projects, maintain accurate documentation, and ensure optimal performance and reliability of data center systems.
Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis across data center infrastructure including network, power, and physical layers
  • Install, terminate, test, and maintain copper and fiber cabling systems in accordance with industry standards
  • Use testing tools (e.g., OTDRs, light meters, cable testers) to validate cable and fiber throughput and performance
  • Support and maintain enterprise, mission-critical data center operations, ensuring uptime and reliability targets are met
  • Maintain accurate infrastructure documentation, including rack layouts, cable maps, and asset inventories
  • Utilize Nlyte (DCIM) or similar tools for asset tracking, capacity planning, and workflow management
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (network engineering, facilities, security, and application teams) to support deployments and incident resolution
  • Execute and support data center projects, including new builds, expansions, migrations, and decommissioning efforts
  • Follow change management processes to ensure controlled and compliant infrastructure updates
  • Participate in after-hours support or on-call rotations as needed for critical operations

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of experience in Systems engineering and systems programmer
OR
High School Diploma or GED and 10 years of experience in Systems engineering and systems programmer
Preferred Area of Experience: Windows Server, Red Hat Linux, AIX, Mainframe
License or Certification Type: Microsoft Preferred, VMware Preferred, Red Hat Preferred, DevSecOps Preferred, Mainframe
Preferred Experience :
  • Exposure to mainframe, desktop, Windows and UNIX system support,
  • Exposure to Server Virtualization,
  • Exposure to Business Continuity Processes,
  • Understanding of data flow, network interfaces, and protocols such as systems network architecture (SNA), Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Domain Name System (DNS), and NetBIOS Extended User Interface (NetBEUI),
  • Ability to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Delivered advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis across network, cabling, and physical infrastructure in mission-critical data center environments
  • Installed, terminated, and tested copper and fiber cabling systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and optimal performance
  • Utilized fiber light meters, OTDRs, and cable certification tools to validate throughput, signal integrity, and connectivity issues
  • Supported enterprise-scale data center operations, maintaining high availability and minimizing downtime in 24/7 environments
  • Managed and executed data center projects, including equipment deployment, migrations, rack/stack, and decommissioning activities
  • Maintained accurate and detailed infrastructure documentation, including rack elevations, cable maps, and asset inventories
  • Leveraged Nlyte (DCIM) for asset tracking, capacity management, and workflow coordination across data center environments
  • Collaborated with cross-functional teams (network, systems, facilities, and security) to support deployments and resolve complex issues
  • Implemented and followed change management processes to ensure controlled and compliant infrastructure updates
  • Optimized cabling layouts and data center organization, improving airflow, accessibility, and overall operational efficiency
