HV Transmission Cable Engineer
Location: Fremont, CA or Remote
Kinectrics Inc. is North America's leading provider of innovative science and engineering services to the Electricity Energy Sector in the Nuclear, Hydro Power, and Transmission & Distribution areas. We are a company built on a 100-year history of serving the energy sector with our advanced problem-solving expertise.
Kinectrics is looking for a Transmission Cables Field Engineer for our the U.S. Transmission Cable Field Testing service line. Your primary focus will be on executing a portfolio of projects while ensuring a high level of customer service.
An Electrical Engineering degree as well as demonstrated project management and understanding of cable system is a must. Additional education in Master or PhD or certifications in project management to be an asset. Must be willing and able to travel both nationally and internationally.
About the Job
Major Duties / Responsibilities:
  • Act as a project engineer for Kinectrics dealing with inspection, maintenance and testing of transmission class cables. Further, developing strategies supporting growing the capabilities of Kinectrics in this technology. In particular, the focus is on field testing using Kinectrics Resonant Test Sets, PD measurement in the field, and supporting installation and commissioning of transmission cables.
  • Plan and develop business proposals for work in the area of transmission cable management, including contracts, cost estimates, scheduling, resource management, and preparing a technical engineering report upon project completion.
  • Responsible for preparing project-specific work instructions, developing and reviewing pre-job safety documentation, creating test plans, and coordinating resource and equipment allocations prior to project mobilization.
  • Duties also include mobilizing to the site, executing tests in accordance with the approved plan, managing equipment pack-up and demobilization, and conducting post-job reviews upon return
  • Collaborate with Leadership and the technical team to implement standardized testing protocols, project preparations, and execution procedures. The position requires compliance with internal instructions to maintain uniformity across all projects.
  • Consult with the Leadership to develop strategies and plans to respond to a customer's complex problems.
  • Keep informed on the latest issues in the area of design, installation, qualification, maintenance and repair. Maintain expertise in the area of transmission cables with active participation in relevant cable committees.
  • Adhere to Kinectrics quality programs (ISO9001& 17025) and adhere to Kinectrics commitment to safe working practices.

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • A four-year university education in electrical engineering. Preference will be given to post-graduate qualification as well as demonstrated leadership in power transmission technologies.
  • Strong knowledge in all aspects of transmission systems, transmission technologies and transmission technology options.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge/experience in power transmission cable design, construction, maintenance and diagnostic practices. A period of up to 5 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
  • Demonstrated qualification experience in the areas of, but not limited to transmission cable technologies.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must be willing and able to travel both nationally and internationally.
  • Proven computer skills with a variety of software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong oral, presentation, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Additional Desired Competencies:
  • Track record of technical leadership including successful projects and publications. This leadership should span both cable suppliers and cable users.
  • Strong customer focus and broad experience for successfully maintaining and developing new business.
  • Initiative to propose and implement new business ideas in the area of transmission cable technology.
  • Considerable knowledge and experience in project management acquired over the years in order to effectively and rapidly integrate large multidisciplinary high profile/key projects/activities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time and budgets on Kinectrics projects and to work on multiple projects in parallel.
  • Participation in IEEE cable committees.
