How much do creo design engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 18, 2026, the average yearly pay for creo design engineer in the United States is $88,150.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $68,000.00 and $98,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a Creo design engineer?

Creo Design Engineers are professionals who use Creo, a 3D CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software, to design and develop detailed models of mechanical parts, assemblies, or products. They are responsible for creating and modifying technical drawings, ensuring designs meet engineering standards and project requirements. Creo Design Engineers collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize product functionality, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness throughout the product development lifecycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Creo design engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Creo Design Engineer, you need a strong background in mechanical engineering, proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, and typically a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. Mastery of PTC Creo software, familiarity with PLM systems, and experience with GD&T standards are essential technical qualifications. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication set standout professionals apart in this role. These skills ensure accurate, manufacturable designs and efficient collaboration within engineering and cross-functional teams.

What are some common challenges faced by Creo design engineers when working on collaborative projects?

Creo Design Engineers often collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality, and project management. A common challenge is ensuring that design changes and updates are clearly communicated and integrated across all stakeholders, as miscommunication can lead to delays or design inconsistencies. Additionally, managing complex assemblies and large data files in Creo can require careful version control and organization. Proactively participating in design reviews and utilizing PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems can help mitigate these issues and streamline the collaborative process.

What is the difference between Creo Design Engineer vs Mechanical Design Engineer?

AspectCreo Design EngineerMechanical Design Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or related, Creo CAD certification often preferredBachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, CAD software proficiency, often Creo or similar tools
Work EnvironmentDesign firms, manufacturing companies, engineering departmentsManufacturing, product development, engineering consulting
Industry UsagePrimarily in product design, CAD modeling, and prototypingProduct development, mechanical systems, and component design

Creo Design Engineers focus on creating detailed 3D models and CAD drawings using Creo software, often within product design teams. Mechanical Design Engineers have a broader role in designing mechanical systems and components, sometimes using Creo but also other CAD tools. Both roles require similar technical skills and are common in manufacturing and engineering industries, but Creo Design Engineers specialize in CAD modeling with Creo software specifically.

Job Title: Design EngineerJob Description

The Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of metal stamping dies and tooling used in press equipment. This role works closely with internal teams and customers to deliver high-quality, cost-effective tooling solutions that meet performance, reliability, and manufacturing requirements, while providing technical support across design and project activities.

Responsibilities
  • Design a wide variety of metal stamping dies in accordance with established engineering standards and specifications.
  • Analyze tooling performance to identify opportunities to improve tool life, reliability, and overall efficiency in manufacturing operations.
  • Develop and recommend design enhancements and corrective solutions to improve the functionality and performance of existing tooling.
  • Create detailed designs and engineering blueprints in PTC Creo for tooling dies, machine components, and other mechanical systems.
  • Develop complete drawing packages, including dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, assembly drawings, detail drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Collaborate effectively with customers, vendors, and internal personnel while maintaining a professional and organized approach to communication and documentation.
  • Provide engineering support and assist fellow engineers with design, development, and project-related activities as needed.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on tooling design, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure that all designs comply with applicable standards, best practices, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Support the integration of new tooling and fixtures into existing manufacturing processes, including the canning industry.
Essential Skills
  • 5+ years of design experience supporting tooling, manufacturing, or industrial environments.
  • 4+ years of experience using PTC Creo (formerly Pro/ENGINEER or Pro-E) for mechanical design.
  • Proficiency in creating detailed designs and engineering blueprints in Creo for tooling dies, machine components, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience developing complete drawing packages, including dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, assembly drawings, detail drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Strong understanding of tool and die design principles and best practices.
  • Hands-on experience designing tooling, fixtures, and mechanical components used in manufacturing operations, including applications in the canning industry.
  • Ability to work with CAD tools to create 3D models and assemblies for complex tooling and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and its application in precision engineering drawings.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts clearly.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in related manufacturing or industrial sectors is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Pro/ENGINEER or Pro-E and related CAD platforms.
  • Background in tool and die, tooling design, or metal stamping operations.
  • Experience working with bills of materials (BOMs) and engineering documentation in a production environment.
  • Exposure to international projects and global customers is an advantage.
  • Interest in owning and influencing complete design projects from concept through implementation.
  • Motivation to grow professionally and take on increasing responsibility over time.
Work Environment

The role operates in a combined manufacturing and office setting, offering exposure to both design activities and production operations. You will work with modern CAD and engineering tools, including PTC Creo, and collaborate closely with engineering, production, and external partners. The environment supports a collaborative culture with opportunities to own complete design projects, contribute directly to products and processes, and engage with global customers and international initiatives. Standard professional office attire is expected in the office areas, with appropriate safety and protective gear used as required in manufacturing spaces.
