How much do creo design engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 16, 2026, the average yearly pay for creo design engineer in Virginia is $87,393.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $67,400.00 and $97,700.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Creo Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Creo Design Engineer, you need a strong background in mechanical engineering, proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, and typically a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. Mastery of PTC Creo software, familiarity with PLM systems, and experience with GD&T standards are essential technical qualifications. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication set standout professionals apart in this role. These skills ensure accurate, manufacturable designs and efficient collaboration within engineering and cross-functional teams.

What are some common challenges faced by Creo Design Engineers when working on collaborative projects?

Creo Design Engineers often collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality, and project management. A common challenge is ensuring that design changes and updates are clearly communicated and integrated across all stakeholders, as miscommunication can lead to delays or design inconsistencies. Additionally, managing complex assemblies and large data files in Creo can require careful version control and organization. Proactively participating in design reviews and utilizing PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems can help mitigate these issues and streamline the collaborative process.

What is the difference between Creo Design Engineer vs Mechanical Design Engineer?

AspectCreo Design EngineerMechanical Design Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or related, Creo CAD certification often preferredBachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, CAD software proficiency, often Creo or similar tools
Work EnvironmentDesign firms, manufacturing companies, engineering departmentsManufacturing, product development, engineering consulting
Industry UsagePrimarily in product design, CAD modeling, and prototypingProduct development, mechanical systems, and component design

Creo Design Engineers focus on creating detailed 3D models and CAD drawings using Creo software, often within product design teams. Mechanical Design Engineers have a broader role in designing mechanical systems and components, sometimes using Creo but also other CAD tools. Both roles require similar technical skills and are common in manufacturing and engineering industries, but Creo Design Engineers specialize in CAD modeling with Creo software specifically.

What are Creo Design Engineers?

Creo Design Engineers are professionals who use Creo, a 3D CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software, to design and develop detailed models of mechanical parts, assemblies, or products. They are responsible for creating and modifying technical drawings, ensuring designs meet engineering standards and project requirements. Creo Design Engineers collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize product functionality, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness throughout the product development lifecycle.
