Job Description:

Job purpose

The Business Office Generalist will support the daily administrative and financial operations Oncology Specialties, PC. This role is responsible for a wide range of front-end and back-end office functions, including insurance verification, billing support, and customer service.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform demographic updates and insurance verification.
  • Obtain referrals as required.
  • Collect copayments, deductibles, and outstanding balances in accordance with practice policies.
  • Assist with charge entry, claim submission, and payment posting.
  • Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status, eligibility, and coverage issues.
  • Respond to patient inquiries related to billing, insurance, and account balances.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient and financial records in the practice management system.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must have knowledge of medical terminology, insurance plans, and billing procedures.
  • Must be able to prioritize and manage time efficiently.
  • Must have strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Must be able to collaborate effectively across multiple departments.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must have excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Must have a demonstrated commitment to accuracy and accountability in all aspects of work.

Education/Experience

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in healthcare administration, business, or related field preferred.

  • Must be experienced with electronic health records (EHR) and practice management systems.
  • Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding preferred.

Working conditions:

This position works in the business office of a busy outpatient oncology/hematology clinic. This position does not have direct patient contact.

Physical requirements:

This position requires that the employee be able to work at a desk and on a computer for up to eight hours a day. The employee must be able to work via telephone for several hours a day as well.
