Job Title: Preschool Aide

Location/Work Status: Holualoa, Hawaii

Job Type: On Call (less than 19 hours / week), Non-Exempt

Compensation: $16.18 / hour

Summary of Program and Position:

We believe that every child deserves bright and healthy futures. Early education plays a critical role during the important developmental period, especially among disadvantaged children. Investing in early education will have a tremendous impact on life outcomes and provide thriving futures for Hawaii’s young minds.

Federally funded initiatives provide early childhood education and related comprehensive services for low-income parents and children, and children with special needs. Early Head Start (EHS) provides services in centers and in homes to prenatal parents and parents with infants and toddlers. Head Start (HS) serves children ages three through five and their parents to provide a head start for school success.

The Preschool Aide assists with the implementation of an individualized and comprehensive early education program, including assisting in activities with the children, assisting children with disabilities, and performing tasks related to maintaining a clean safe environment for the children. This position reports to the Area Manager or Preschool Teacher, depending on the location.

Essential Duties:

  • Behaves in a manner that supports the agency's mission and follows personnel policies and procedures.
  • Assists Preschool Teachers with developmental screening.
  • Assists with the creation and on-going maintenance of a safe, healthy, stimulating and developmentally and culturally appropriate learning environment; responsible for maintaining classroom appearance; cleaning toys; and daily safety checks of classroom and grounds.
  • Assists Preschool Teachers in providing individualized learning opportunities for children and families.
  • Assists with the preparation of curricula that enrich the learning experiences of children and their families.
  • Assists the Preschool Teachers in providing comprehensive center based early childhood education services to children and their families.
  • Assists Preschool Teachers with the organization and maintenance of classroom files and all required forms in accordance with established standards.
  • Advocates on behalf of children and their families for comprehensive services that are effective and relevant.

Minimum Qualifications:

-Must be at least 18 years old.
-High School Diploma or equivalent. (Required)

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with children in a preschool or day care setting. (Preferred)

  1. Can obtain an acceptable criminal background check upon hire, one year later, and annually thereafter.
  2. Can obtain an acceptable CWS background check. upon hire, one year later, and annually thereafter.
  3. Can obtain an acceptable National Sex Offender Registry Check upon hire, one year later, and annually thereafter.
  4. Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and TB test upon hire and as requested
