WHY MICHIGAN TIMBER & TRUSS?

Great companies are built the same way great structures are, with strong foundations, talented people, and a commitment to doing things the right way. At Michigan Timber & Truss, you'll join a team that plays a critical role in supplying the components and materials that help bring homes and buildings to life.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As the Component Manufacturing & Material Sales General Manager, you will lead the overall performance of Michigan Timber & Truss's manufacturing facility and material sales yard. You will be responsible for aligning operations, sales, safety, inventory, and customer service to drive profitability and operational excellence. This role requires a hands‑on leader who can develop teams, optimize processes, manage financial performance, and collaborate with company leadership to support growth while ensuring customers receive exceptional products and services.

THE NITTY GRITTY
  • Own the combined P&L for MTT manufacturing and material sales yard: labor ratios, material cost, throughput, margin, and sales performance against approved budget and benchmarks
  • Direct daily production operations across truss and wall panel manufacturing, ensuring safety, quality, and on‑time delivery
  • Direct daily material sales yard operations, including counter and contractor sales, inventory management, yard safety, and customer service standards
  • Lead, coach, and develop leadership across both functions, including Design, Production, Dispatch, and Sales Yard roles; build a clear organizational structure with defined roles and accountability
  • Drive continuous improvement across systems and management, reporting and measurement, process standardization, inventory and costing, and sales overflow for both manufacturing and material sales
  • Own production scheduling and capacity planning in coordination with sales and design to protect committed delivery dates
  • Align material inventory, purchasing, and stocking levels at the sales yard with both retail/contractor demand and MTT's manufacturing needs
  • Establish and maintain KPI reporting (production efficiency, on‑time delivery, scrap/waste, sales volume and margin, safety incidents) and communicate results to executive leadership
  • Ensure proactive, timely communication of order status, delays, and acknowledgements to internal and external customers across both the plant and the sales yard
  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with OSHA and all applicable regulations across both operations
  • Partner with Mans Lumber branches and executive leadership on capital planning, staffing, and long‑term growth strategy for Michigan Timber & Truss
  • Manage vendor and supplier relationships critical to both production (lumber, connector plates, MiTek systems, equipment) and material sales (lumber, building materials, and related product lines)
WHAT YOU NEED

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and industry experience
  • 7+ years of leadership experience in manufacturing and/or lumber & building materials (LBM) sales operations
  • Experience in wood component manufacturing, truss production, building products, manufacturing, or related industries, preferred
  • Demonstrated success managing a full P&L and achieving operational and financial goals
  • Strong knowledge of production scheduling, plant operations, inventory management, and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Experience with MiTek software or similar truss design and production systems, preferred
Interpersonal Skills:
  • A strong steward of Mans culture and core values
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop high‑performing teams
  • Strong accountability focused leadership style
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with executive leadership, sales teams, operational teams, customers, and vendors
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and decision‑making abilities
  • Results driven with continuous improvement mindset
WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position requires frequent movement throughout the manufacturing facility and material sales yard including standing, walking, bending, and navigating production and warehouse environments. The role also requires regular operational oversight on the plant floor and the ability to occasionally lift or move items up to 25 pounds.
