Job Summary

As manager of the Building Systems team your responsibilities will include the management and coordination of all building services-related activities in a customer focused manner. You will demonstrate an ability to apply best practices in the operation and maintenance of all Apotex facilities in a safe, efficient, reliable and fully compliant manner.

Job Responsibilities
  • Set, implement, and manage departmental priorities for the Building Systems team in the delivery of their services to ensure reliable, safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all facility systems and to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Recruit, train, develop and manage the performance of direct reports.
  • Maintain responsibility for facility maintenance, repairs and minor renovations of the company's existing buildings, building systems and equipment, grounds, control and utility systems.
  • Ensure that effective programs are in place to direct and manage all calibration programs for all building systems, equipment and components as well as in-house calibration services for manufacturing equipment and components, to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Establish priorities for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and ensure that work is assigned to staff and contractors as required for completion in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Ensure work related to the maintenance, calibration, repair or alteration of building systems and equipment is documented and approved (service reports, calibration certificates, CMMS work orders etc.).
  • Participate in technical and strategic discussions as a building systems Subject Matter Expert (SME). Clearly articulate technical detail, scope, costs, and risks, in a communication style geared toward the target audience.
  • Ensure Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions are developed and revised as necessary.
  • Collaborate with Capital Engineering and business stakeholders to ensure execution of capital projects on time and on budget.
  • Develop and manage the cost center budget(s); report on variances to budget while taking action to ensure solid fiscal management and transparency is maintained.
  • Be a lead resource in analyzing and managing utilities, energy conservation and environmental initiatives.
  • Lead and execute continuous improvement initiatives by actively applying Gemba, Kaizen, and other CI tools to identify opportunities, eliminate waste, and enhance operational performance.
  • Support regulatory audits as a key Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Building Systems team, demonstrating knowledge and quality mindset during all interactions.
  • Participate and lead performance conversations with employees, including monthly one on ones, to connect on performance; check in on employee's progress toward achieving Objectives, offer support and remove barriers; and, communicate and revisit performance expectations to reinforce and encourage high performance culture and a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Utilize open, honest, two way communication to build trust-based relationships with employees, business partners and direct leader while continuously improving leadership capabilities by personally seeking feedback and development.

Job Requirements
  • Education
    • Engineering Degree / Technologist Diploma (preferably Mechanical) or a Second Class Stationary Engineering Certificate (minimum). Post-graduate courses in building systems are desirable.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Demonstrated expertise in the field of energy management and large-scale facility management.
    • Good interpersonal skills. Demonstrated initiative, self-motivation, planning and organizational skills. Effective communicator and experienced supervisor.
    • Good knowledge and demonstrated experience with Building Automation Systems.
  • Experience
    • Minimum (8) years' experience in the management of a large physical plant.
    • Experience in pharmaceutical water systems and GMP systems preferred.

The hiring range for this position is $109,933.56 - $153,906 CAD per year. The final agreed-upon salary may vary based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
