Job description

Job Responsibilities Assist in maintaining grounds, roads, and sidewalks, to include: (A) seeding, fertilization and treatment of lawns, (B) fertilization, pruning, spraying and general care of landscape plants and trees, (C) mowing grass, edging walks, etc., (D) removal of debris, maintaining storm drainage, (E) replace dead or damaged landscape plants, (F) removal of ice, snow, and other debris from sidewalks. Assist in the implementation of landscaping and irrigation by (A) preparing site, layout and installation of plants, trees and sod, (B) repair and replace broken sprinkler heads and lines, (C) remove dead or damaged portions of trees that do not require a tree specialist. Under supervision, spray for weed control

Assist in maintaining parking lots by patching pot holes, painting lines and stencils, and maintaining signage around roads and parking lots. Make daily inspection of irrigation systems for leaks or sprinkler malfunctions. Report major issues to supervisor.

Performs daily preventive maintenance and minor repairs to grounds equipment and any specialized vehicles being used. Operates specialized vehicles for disposal of debris generated by the maintenance of grounds such as limbs. grass clippings, and construction debris.

This position is located on the Midlands Technical College Airport Campus. Minimum and Additional Requirements Experience in custodial, housekeeping, groundskeeping, or pest control work that is directly related to the area of employment. Must have a valid SC Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of plant care, irrigation systems, and maintenance/repair practices. Proficient in using trade tools and equipment related to landscaping and grounds maintenance. Familiarity with typical grounds equipment use and routine maintenance.

Knowledge of OSHA safety policies and procedures as they relate to landscaping work. A Certified Landscaper of South Carolina is plus.
