The Building Engineering Services (BES) group of MN/WI is looking for a Structural Team Lead to join our St. Louis Park, MN office. Come join the fast-growing BES Group at HDR.  This Business Group provides industry-leading mechanical, electrical, plumbing, site civil, structural, and specialty design services for a wide variety of buildings. These projects include public, municipal, private, and government project types.  They are local as well as national and across the globe. HDR has teams of experienced staff with subject matter expertise in several markets including Healthcare, Tech/Media/Telecom, Science/Technology, Commercial Real Estate, Finance, Hospitality, Industrial, Municipal, Manufacturing, Transportation, and Federal facilities. We provide engineering excellence for all our clients. This is a terrific opportunity for a mid-career engineer to tackle a new challenge and contribute to the positive culture of a growing team.

In the role of Structural Team Lead, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Assist the Structural Area Business Class Lead with management and culture of the overall business class by being the direct supervisor of a team of structural engineers, EITs and designers with varying degree of experience
  • Work as a collaborative team with fellow Team Leads and the Area Business Class Lead for work staffing and project proposals
  • Provide team leadership with a focus on technical excellence, quality, recruiting, mentoring, and staff development
  • Collaborate closely with structural market sector leadership to ensure technical excellence in all key markets including commercial, civic, industrial, federal, water, transportation, healthcare, education and laboratories and mission-critical facilities
  • Function as design lead or engineering project manager for key projects.
  • Implement, monitor, and support company policy
  • Actively encourage and participate in work-sharing and structural practice development with a nation-wide network of HDR Structural Business Class
  • Assist the Structural Business Class Lead in the recruitment and growth of the business class
  • Structural Engineering Tasks
    • Collaborate with architects and other engineering discipline leads to develop designs and drive projects forward, working independently and/or leading small project teams and mentoring EIT's.
    • Independently coordinate the work of the structural design team through the design development and contract document phases of a project
    • Establish meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance
    • Conduct design development and contract document work sessions at project sites in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines
    • Perform site visits and lead construction administration efforts.
    • Write and edit structural specifications, select procedures, materials and their respective sizes, and complete necessary calculations.
    • Review structural documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines and best practices/industry standards.
  • Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering with Structural emphasis
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Preference given to local candidates
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 7 years experience
  • Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Good leadership and organizational skills
