The Opportunity:
Glumac, A Tetra Tech Company, is seeking an accomplished Senior Energy Consultant to join our expanding Building Science Group in San Francisco, CA and help lead high-impact energy consulting work that advances sustainable design and decarbonization goals. In this role, you will work closely with building owners, architects, engineers, and internal project teams to deliver innovative strategies that improve building performance, reduce carbon emissions, and support long-term resilience. This is an exciting opportunity for a technical leader who wants to shape the future of energy planning across new developments, existing buildings, campuses, and portfolios.
Position Summary:
The Senior Energy Consultant will play a leadership role in energy and sustainability planning projects for a wide range of building types and client needs. This position will support the development of net-zero energy, carbon neutrality, and energy resilience strategies, while contributing deep technical expertise in energy modeling, electrification, renewable energy systems, and decarbonization planning. The ideal candidate is both a strong project leader and trusted technical advisor, capable of mentoring team members, strengthening internal delivery processes, and building lasting client relationships.
Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage energy consulting projects, including energy modeling, energy audits, retro-commissioning, electrification feasibility studies, and decarbonization planning.

  • Provide technical consulting to clients and internal project teams on energy efficiency, decarbonization, and resiliency strategies.

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive plans to support net-zero energy, carbon neutrality, and energy resilience goals for buildings, campuses, and portfolios.

  • Use advanced data analytics to evaluate performance, communicate findings, and support informed decision-making.

  • Mentor and support junior staff, including providing guidance, technical review, and QA/QC of energy models and project deliverables.

  • Improve internal project delivery workflows and contribute to internal knowledge management efforts.

  • Stay current on industry trends, codes, and regulations related to building decarbonization and sustainability.

  • Support business development efforts, including proposal development, client presentations, and participation in industry events.

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships to support repeat business and long-term partnerships.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering , Building Sciences, or a related technical field.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in sustainable building design or the energy sector.

  • Demonstrated expertise in MEP systems, sustainable building design, electrified heating technologies, renewable energy, microgrid systems, and energy codes and standards.

  • Experience consulting on California Title 24 Building Energy Efficiency Standards

  • Experience developing detailed building energy models using software including IES-VE and CBECC.

  • Experience managing energy modeling, energy audit, or retro-commissioning projects involving large project teams and diverse clients.

  • Experience mentoring or supervising junior staff and providing technical guidance on project efforts.

  • Ability to analyze complex data and communicate technical findings clearly and effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience delivering building decarbonization plans for buildings, campuses, and portfolios.

  • Experience delivering retro-commissioning (RCx) and monitoring-based commissioning (MBCx) utilizing automated fault detection and diagnostics (FDD)

  • Experience with data analytics, dashboarding, and programming tools such as Python, R, and SQL.

  • Experience with parametric modeling tools such as Grasshopper, Honeybee, Ladybug, etc.

  • Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or equivalent certification.

Work Environment and Location:
This position offers a hybrid work environment, with a requirement of two in-office days per week in our San Francisco, CA office . All candidates must be located in and eligible to work in the U.S.
Compensation:
Salary Range: $115,000 - $145,000 (depending on experience)
The base salary range represents the low and high end of the compensation scale for this role. Actual salaries will be determined based on location, experience, responsibilities, and qualifications. This salary range is just one component of Glumac's total compensation package, which includes benefits, professional development opportunities, and additional incentives.
