Your Role:
As an Automation Engineer, you will be a central engineering resource responsible for the delivery, support, and optimization of automation systems across Elanco's manufacturing sites globally. You'll also play a key support role in providing Operational Technology (OT) cybersecurity services, supporting global initiatives, assessing risks, and designing secure OT system architectures.
Your Responsibilities:
  • Automation Project Delivery: Coordinate and facilitate small to medium-scale process automation projects at Elanco manufacturing sites, recommending and implementing solutions to optimize control strategies.
  • Data Management & Historian: Assist sites with data selection and collection for enterprise historian systems.
  • OT Cybersecurity & Compliance: Support sites with OT cybersecurity incident response, disaster recovery, backup/restore processes, and OT Standards gap assessments with remediation strategies.
  • Project Management & Financial Oversight: Manage project budgets, schedules, and financial impact, ensuring effective communication and issue resolution.
  • Training & Mentorship: Develop and facilitate training to enhance user knowledge of control systems and mentor the Automation team on best practices and compliance processes.

What You Need to Succeed (minimum qualifications):
  • Education: BS Engineering or equivalent years of relevant experience.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of manufacturing site experience in Automation (OT)
  • Top 2 skills: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to express complex technological concepts in relatable terms for non-technical colleagues and skill in comprehensive and precise documentation

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications):
  • Other college majors preferred: Controls and Computer Control Systems, Automation Engineering etc.
  • Education in or knowledge of industrial cybersecurity
  • Demonstrated experience in process optimization
  • Strong business and technical skills
  • Demonstrated independent initiative in a team environment
  • Preferred experience with process support in a GxP regulated industry with demonstrated understanding of computer system validation

Additional Information:
  • Travel: Up to 30% globally (with some extended periods >2 weeks)
  • Location: This role is based in Elanco Headquarters in Indianapolis.
  • Hours: This role supports Elanco Manufacturing Network sites. Off-hours support (evenings and weekends) may be required for process issues/outages.
