What is a build release manager?

Build Release Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the process of building, packaging, and deploying software releases in an organization. They coordinate between development, quality assurance, and operations teams to ensure that software updates are delivered smoothly and on schedule. Their work includes managing version control, automating build processes, troubleshooting release issues, and maintaining release documentation. This role is crucial for ensuring the stability and reliability of software products as they move from development to production environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a build release manager?

To thrive as a Build Release Manager, you need expertise in software development lifecycle management, version control systems, and continuous integration/delivery practices, often supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with tools such as Jenkins, Git, Docker, and configuration management systems, along with certifications like AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you coordinate across development, QA, and operations teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring reliable software releases, minimizing downtime, and maintaining smooth deployment pipelines.

Job Description

About the Role
We are looking for a highly skilled Azure DevOps Senior Engineer to join our team on a contract basis. This role will focus on building scalable CI/CD pipelines, automating Azure infrastructure using Bicep and PowerShell, and supporting cloud solutions across multiple development teams. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and have deep hands‑on expertise with Azure DevOps and cloud automation, we want to hear from you.

What You’ll Do
  • Build and enhance Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines using YAML for fully automated and reliable deployments.
  • Set up and manage Azure DevOps agent pools to support parallel builds and multiple development teams.
  • Implement zero‑downtime deployment models including blue‑green and rolling updates.
  • Provision and manage Azure services (App Services, Function Apps, Data Factory, Synapse) using Bicep and PowerShell.
  • Integrate SAST/DAST tools into pipelines and partner with dev & security teams on vulnerability remediation.
  • Automate deployments of Azure resources such as Key Vaults, App Config, Cosmos DB, and Resource Groups.
  • Automate API onboarding into Azure API Management (APIM) and enforce organizational policies.
  • Maintain and improve governance, security compliance, and cost optimization standards across Azure.
  • Deploy and support Azure Data Factory components including Pipelines, Dataflows, Datasets, IRs, and private endpoints.
  • Provide post‑deployment support, troubleshoot issues, and deliver clear root‑cause analyses.
  • Support Disaster Recovery strategies and resilience testing.
  • Manage Windows server tasks, .NET installations/upgrades, certificates, and PowerShell automation.
  • Configure and troubleshoot Azure networking (VNETs, subnets, DNS, routing, firewalls, private endpoints).
What We’re Looking For
  • Strong experience as an Azure DevOps Engineer in enterprise environments.
  • Expertise with Azure DevOps YAML pipelines and build/release automation.
  • Hands‑on experience with Bicep, ARM, and PowerShell for infrastructure‑as‑code.
  • Solid understanding of Azure networking, security, governance, and identity.
  • Experience with APIM, Data Factory, and CI/CD security integration (SAST/DAST).
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to support complex deployments.
