Job description

KSOM Office of Research Administration is seeking a Budget Technician. Working directly under the supervision of the Senior Research Administrator, the Budget Technician works closely with the Shared Services Research Administration Team to perform a combination of duties related to the processing and monitoring of financial transactions for an academic, research, or administrative department.
The successful candidate will be motivated, pro-active, resourceful, and detail-oriented. The position requires excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to be decisive and adaptable.
Essential job duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Process Payroll Accounting Adjustments with direction from Research Administrators in the Shared Services Team
  • Other financial tasks related to grants administration.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Proficient in Excel and MS Office
  • Ability to work in a deadline driven environment and balance competing priorities
  • Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2 years of administrative or project administration experience
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal.
  • Comfortable interfacing with team leaders and peers.
  • Demonstrated affinity for diplomacy and the ability to cultivate and maintain relationships at all levels.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively and demonstrate strong organizational skills.
  • Shows initiative to follow-up when needed to ensure tasks are completed.
  • Sound judgment and decision making
  • A cooperative and team-oriented attitude
  • Effective facilitator in various settings
  • Previous work experience in an academic/university and/or research setting
  • Associate's degree
  • Related undergraduate study (e.g., finance and business)

Follows established USC and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan.
This position is hybrid on-site and employee must report to work at the USC Health Science Campus in Los Angeles, CA when scheduled. Work hours and on-site days may be subject to change depending on business needs.
The hourly rate range for this position is $23.99 - $27.50. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations
Minimum Education: High school or equivalent, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Minimum Experience: 2 years
Minimum Field of Expertise: Directly related office financial experience to provide a knowledge of accounts payable, income and expense accounting and reconcilement, and budget preparation.
