Job Summary

Teach and perform the Essential Duties and Responsibilities for Mathematics course/s which you have been appointed to teach for the particular academic semester/term.

Job Description
This is a part-time on-site Adjunct Mathematics Instructor position to teach College Algebra at Howard Payne University, located in New Braunfels, TX. The Adjunct Mathematics Instructor position serves on an as needed basis.

Adjunct instructor responsibilities

Adjunct instructor responsibilities include on-site instruction (lecture), Brightspace (D2L) course management, and assessing student performance. Instructors are expected to engage with students, support their academic needs, contribute to a positive learning environment, and complete standard academic and student success reporting.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or higher in Mathematics, Education, or a related field is preferred, with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Mathematics completed. Expertise in Mathematics and Mathematics Education.
• Christian with strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment
• Ability to work effectively within a team and independently
• Teaching experience at the college level is a plus

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Perform the following essential duties and responsibilities listed in the Job Description that follows.
   Teaches one or more subjects within the Department for the course/s which you have been appointed to teach for the particular academic semester/term - specifically in the areas of Mathematics, Statistics, Probability, etc.
2. Prepares and delivers instruction to students, utilizing various delivery methods [including online, hybrid, as well as face-to-face]. This position is primarily for on-site instruction.
3. Meets classes as scheduled
4. Compiles, administers, and grades examinations and other student learning assignments
5. Reports student attendance electronically, via Brightspace or Gateway. Training to use these systems will be made available to the instructor
6. Assesses and reports student achievement validly and reliably
7. Communicates with students consistently and in a timely manner to support student engagement and learning. Uses the HPU learning management system (LMS-Brightspace by D2L) to record and post student grades.

Adjunct instructor responsibilities

This position does not have supervisor responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience:

Master's degree from an accredited University.
Discipline areas sought include: Mathematics, Statistics, and other closely aligned discipline, etc. Graduate transcripts are required to be considered. (unofficial for application and official upon hire).

Dates and Limitations of Employment:

Adjunct faculty employment is a temporary appointment for a single semester to teach specific courses and is compensated on a course-by-course basis. Neither the adjunct faculty member nor Howard Payne University is obligated once the semester of appointment is completed. Future appointments may be made when the adjunct faculty member and HPU agree to a new appointment for a future semester.
