Every day in every county of the U.S., people turn to Thumbtack to complete urgent repairs, seasonal maintenance and bigger improvements. We help homeowners know which projects to do, when to do them and who to hire from our growing community of 300,000 local service businesses. If making an impact inspires you, join us. Imagine what we'll build together.
About the Brand Strategy Team
We act as the architects of the Thumbtack brand - claiming a distinct position in the market, defining a brand promise that delivers on that position, and partnering with skilled experts across the company to bring it to life. Our work spans brand insights, brand strategy, content strategy, and integrated marketing. We set the roadmap for the brand and extend our influence beyond Marketing & Communications into all parts of the organization to make sure every touchpoint strengthens the brand.
About the role
As Senior Brand Manager, you'll help define how we position the company, what we promise homeowners and pros, and how that promise comes to life across every touchpoint. Reporting directly to the Director of Brand Strategy, you'll set vision for major brand workstreams while shaping how the team and the company think about the brand.
What you'll do
  • Lead foundational workstreams to help roll out our new brand "north star," including fleshing out the Brand Playbook, defining a content strategy, educating and training partner teams, and more - and refresh these artifacts as the market shifts and new learnings emerge.
  • Identify high-leverage opportunities for the brand to drive business growth, then translate them into clear creative briefs and strategic direction for internal and external creative partners.
  • Own brand insights work that informs strategy - including audience deep dives, creative experimentation, competitive analysis, and brand health tracking - and turn findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Partner with channel owners across Marketing and Communications to translate brand strategy into an integrated content strategy and creative calendar that meets business and brand goals.
  • Extend the brand's influence beyond Marketing and Communications by building relationships with cross-functional partners; create proactive moments to communicate brand vision and align company priorities to it.
  • Lead brand support for AI-driven content, building prompts, skills, brand review systems, and other infrastructure that allows the brand to scale as content creation becomes more decentralized.
  • Orchestrate brand strategy and creative work for tentpole moments, including campaign launches, product launches, and major events.
  • Serve as a senior voice on the Brand Strategy team - setting standards, shaping how we work, and driving alignment with leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

In order to be successful, you must bring
  • 6-8+ years of brand marketing experience, with a strong focus on brand strategy, positioning, and messaging
  • Experience defining and implementing brand strategy - including brand promises, positioning frameworks, playbooks, and messaging architecture
  • Experience setting brand vision and roadmap, not just managing executions - comfortable operating upstream of campaigns and influencing how the broader org thinks about brand
  • Experience designing and managing brand health measurement programs (brand tracking, awareness, perception, brand lift) and translating findings into clear strategic action
  • Strong creative judgment, including experience writing compelling creative briefs, providing strategic guidance to creative agencies and in-house studios, and partnering with creative teams to develop standout work
  • Experience designing and running creative experimentation programs that improve campaign performance and feed back into brand strategy
  • Analytical rigor - comfortable planning and executing research with the help of internal or external research partners. Adept at synthesizing quantitative and qualitative data into insights, recommendations, and business cases
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, especially the ability to translate complex insights into clear, compelling narratives and presentations for senior audiences
  • Strong cross-functional partnership skills - able to build relationships and influence beyond marketing, including with Product, Operations, and senior leadership, as well as external agencies and vendors
  • Demonstrated ability to set vision, operate independently, and identify new areas of opportunity without guidance

Expected salary ranges
  • For candidates living in San Francisco / Bay Area, San Jose, New York City, or Seattle metros, the expected salary range for the role is currently $147,100 - $190,300.
  • For candidates living in Austin, TX or Washington DC metros or in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, or Washington states, the expected salary range for the role is currently $132,600 - $171,600.
