St. Joachim Catholic Parish in Miami, Florida has an opening for a Part-time Parish Bookkeeper . This person will be responsible for supporting the parish in posting payments, balancing bank accounts, resolving accounting issues related to invoicing, journal entries, bank reconciliations, processing ACH payments, preparing income tax statements, maintaining fiscal and other records, and processing payroll. The St. Joachim Parish Bookkeeper performs all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the Catholic Archdiocese of Miami.
Schedule: 20 hours a week.
Responsibilities:
  • Set up accounting infrastructure such as cash accounts, payroll, vendors, and bank reconciliation.
  • Balance accounts, resolve accounting issues related to journal entries, bank reconciliations, income statements, balance Sheets, and submit reconciliation to parish administrator and/or financial council.
  • Process payroll, monthly / quarterly / yearly payroll tax forms and returns, year-end W-2s, and 1099s.
  • Process accounts payable.
  • Facilitate Archdiocese of Miami auditing process, including preparation of necessary records and reports.
  • Assist with personnel recordkeeping and processing of new hires into payroll, Health Plan, and other benefits.
  • Perform basic personnel administration. Work with Archdiocesan Office of Human Resources and Finance offices to ensure that appropriate documentation is maintained in payroll, accounting, and personnel files.
  • Secure and maintain personnel and financial records according to federal, state, and any other applicable regulations.
  • Assist with St. Joachim Catholic Parish tasks as assigned with confidentiality and discretion, demonstrating excellent internal and external customer service.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, with 3-5 years of professional -level experience.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting practices.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices on non-for-profit accounting a plus.
  • Knowledge of accounts receivable and general ledger.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality concerning financial and contributors' files.
  • Knowledge in modern office procedures and practices, including record keeping and data security methods and techniques.
  • Excellent customer service skills, including ability to maintain focus on and professionalism with people in challenging situations, both in person and by phone.
  • Good computer literacy, including ability to navigate online applications and search engines effectively.
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.
  • Good spelling and grammar are required.
  • Good oral and written English-language communication skills, including clear speaking voice.
  • Good Spanish-language spoken and written communication skills strongly preferred.
  • Must be supportive of the mission and tenets of the Roman Catholic Church; Experience in a Roman Catholic environment is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the basic tenets of Catholic Church and parish structures.
  • Must have professional demeanor.
