About the Role:
Newtown United Methodist Church is looking for a warm, organized, and dedicated Church Office Administrative Assistant to join our ministry team in Sandy Hook, CT. This is a wonderful opportunity to serve your community in a meaningful way while keeping the heart of our church running smoothly day to day.  This is a part-time position, 15 - 20 hours a week, preferably mornings from 9:30 - 12:30, M-F.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage front office operations including answering phones, greeting visitors, and handling correspondence
  • Prepare and distribute weekly bulletins, newsletters, and church communications
  • Maintain church calendars, schedules, and facility booking coordination
  • Support pastoral staff with administrative tasks, meeting preparation, and document management
  • Maintain accurate membership records and church databases
  • Coordinate with ministry leaders and volunteers to support church events and programs
  • Process donations, invoices, and assist with basic bookkeeping tasks
Requirements:
  • Prior administrative or office experience required; church or nonprofit experience a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general office equipment
  • Ability to use Canva, Mailchimp, etc.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a dynamic environment
  • Skilled in QuickBooks
  • Bookkeeping skills desirable 
  • Warm, welcoming demeanor with a heart for making connections and service
  • Discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive or confidential information
