Our mission is to help providers be providers – acting as their financial back office so they can spend less time running their business and more time helping their clients.

About the Role

The Bookkeeping Lead will be responsible for driving operational excellence, quality, and scalability across Heard’s bookkeeping function.

This leader oversees the day-to-day performance and development of the bookkeeping team, including team members based in the Philippines who execute month-end close, payroll reconciliations, year-end adjustments, and onboarding bookkeeping for new customers. They ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial outcomes while maintaining strong quality standards.

This role combines people leadership and systems leadership. Beyond managing output, the Bookkeeping Lead will strengthen processes, improve bookkeeping quality, and partner cross-functionally with Product, Support, and Tax to scale the function through increased automation and workflow optimization.

The Bookkeeping Lead reports to the Director of Tax Operations and plays a critical role in advancing Heard’s long-term goal of building a highly efficient, automation-enabled bookkeeping engine.

What you'll do
  • Lead and develop a team of offshore bookkeepers, driving high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Manage performance targets across quality, productivity, SLAs, and automation adoption
  • Optimize core workflows (month-end, payroll, onboarding, year-end) to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Use data and reporting to identify trends, resolve bottlenecks, and elevate team performance
  • Manage BPO partner relationships to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery
  • Partner cross-functionally with Tax, Support, and Product to resolve complex issues and improve the customer experience
  • Increase automation adoption to reduce manual work and enable scalable growth
  • Maintain strong internal controls to protect accuracy, compliance, and customer trust
You may be a fit if
  • You have 5+ years in bookkeeping or accounting operations
  • You have 2+ years leading or mentoring team members
  • You possess a strong understanding of S-Corp and Sole-proprietor bookkeeping
  • You have experience working in a high-volume, tech-enabled services environment
  • You are data-driven; comfortable using dashboards and performance metrics
  • You poses strong process design and documentation skills
  • You are familiar with automation tools and workflow optimization
  • You have excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills are a must
  • You are located in the Pacific (PST) timezone (e.g., California, Washington, or Hawaii)
  • Bonus: CPA or equivalent experience
