Summary/Objective

The Business Development Representative is responsible for assisting our company in expanding our customer base. The Business Development Representative researches and identifies new sales and marketing leads for the organization and finds new channels for marketing and selling the organization’s products and services.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for developing and executing creative strategies for targeting decision-makers at prospect accounts to book sales appointments and influence company sales.
  • Drive sales growth and pipeline depth through lead generation by prospecting targeted accounts, follow up on potential leads, referrals, or web inquiries, and conduct cold call, email or direct mail campaigns.
  • Follow up with potential customers who expressed interest either through marketing campaigns, web sales, or other avenues but did not purchase any goods or services.
  • Coordinate and set up qualified meetings for Account Managers or manage accounts that do not warrant on-site service.
  • Grow and manage non-national accounts that require sales representation in regions without an outside sales presence.
  • Develop quotes and proposals for clients.
  • Conduct research utilizing existing marketing channels to find organizations and conduct market analysis within identified regions or industries to find new opportunities.
  • Identify new opportunities or customer needs through assessing their current E-commerce experience and digital marketing methods and use discretionary judgment to determine if they are a fit for our sales business model.
  • Perform regular follow-up calls or emails and facilitate communication with existing customers to ensure their satisfaction and identify new potential needs.
  • Update and report progress to sales leadership to ensure the established lead qualifications and conversion rate KPIs are being met.
  • Support on-site services with select customers, which may include harness inspections or vending/VMI set ups.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a sales, marketing or business-related field or;
  • Minimum of High School degree or GED equivalent with a combined minimum of 2 years of sales experience or inside sales experience; preferred if the experience is within the Safety distribution, Industrial distribution, or MRO industries.
  • Excellent communication, time management, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous experience with CRM systems.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Preferred advanced education degree, including but not limited to, Bachelor’s degree in business or related field; or combined associate degree with 5 or more years experience in safety distribution related industry.
  • Previous experience within a sales or marketing role preferred
  • Previous experience working with marketing tools and web sales or e-commerce platforms, including but not limited to Contact us Forms, Web Chat Module, Mailchimp, Power BI, email marketing, and other analytics resources for following order trends.

Work Environment

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and tablets.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Work occasionally in a uncontrolled temperature environment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 pm are typical hours.

Travel

  • Occasional travel required. May travel with outside account managers to customers within a territory.
