Position Summary
BOILER TECHNICIAN II
Facilities Management
Full Time
Starting Wage: $22.69 per hour/$24.76 after successful completion of probationary period
Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist Boiler Tech I with urgent needs with equipment failures, malfunctions, etc., and have the ability to stand in for Tech 1 in the event he/she is unavailable for their regularly scheduled shift
  • Maintain and repair boilers and associated equipment in the plant (feed water pumps, valves, regulators, etc.)
  • Assist with the maintenance of the electrical infrastructure and Emergency Power Generator Systems (gen sets, transfer switches, etc.) within the Boiler Plant and campus
  • Maintain and repair condensate pumps and associated system components in all facilities
  • Maintain and repair steam valves, traps, regulators, relief valves, heat exchangers, and all related steam equipment in all facilities
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and control systems issues within the plant
  • Repair, replace and/or fabricate piping assemblies (Steel, Copper, PVC, fiber glass) as needed in all systems (steam, chilled, heating, condenser, condensate, etc.) at all facilities by welding, soldering, brazing, etc.
  • Repair, replace and/or install insulation as needed
  • Maintain and repair chemical feed pumps and control systems
  • Perform water tests and adjust chemical feed rates as needed on open and closed systems (steam, chilled, heating, condenser, etc.)
  • Assist in the Preventative Maintenance Program with other plant personnel as directed
  • Perform "Standby" on call duties on a rotating basis with other plant personnel
  • Maintain fountains on the campus to include upkeep and performance of the water systems
  • Assist in the upkeep and appearance of the plant and campus
  • Maintain a valid driver's license

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Possess a current driver's license
  • Must live within 30 minutes travel time from the University
  • Experience on steam boiler systems in an educational, commercial or industrial setting
  • Ability to read and work from prints, schematics, and from verbal and written instructions
  • Strong electrical/mechanical ability as evidenced by maintenance experience
  • Ability to operate various pieces of testing equipment (volt/ohm meters, pressure testing instruments, etc.) and skilled in the proper use of hand and power tools
  • Ability to perform shift work on a rotational basis
  • Ability to learn the control systems, electrical systems and switchgears
  • Ability to work and complete assignments with minimal supervision
  • Ability to perform heavy work and lift up to 100 lbs. and to work at heights up to 150 ft. that exist on campus with or without accommodations
  • Ability to work in close or confined spaces for extended periods of time with or without accommodation
  • Willing to participate in training/schooling to continually improve abilities relative to position
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service
