What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a BNPL (Buy Now, Pay Later) Product Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a BNPL Product Manager, you need a strong background in product management, financial services knowledge, and experience with consumer credit products, often supported by a degree in business, finance, or a related field. Familiarity with fintech platforms, payment processing systems, regulatory compliance tools, and data analytics is typically required. Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills help you collaborate across teams and address complex market needs. These competencies ensure the successful development and delivery of BNPL solutions that meet regulatory standards and customer expectations.

What are BNPL jobs?

BNPL stands for 'Buy Now, Pay Later,' which refers to a type of financial service that allows consumers to make purchases and pay for them over time, often without interest if payments are made on schedule. BNPL jobs typically involve roles in fintech companies that provide these services, such as product management, software engineering, risk analysis, customer support, and compliance. Employees in BNPL companies work to develop, maintain, and improve payment solutions, ensure regulatory compliance, and support customers and merchants. As the BNPL industry grows, there is increasing demand for professionals skilled in technology, finance, and customer service.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in a BNPL (Buy Now, Pay Later) role, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in BNPL roles often encounter challenges such as managing credit risk, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining seamless customer experiences. Since BNPL products operate at the intersection of finance and technology, staying updated on evolving regulations and market trends is crucial. Collaboration with risk analysts, compliance officers, and product teams is common to address these issues. Building strong analytical skills and proactively communicating with cross-functional teams can help overcome these challenges and contribute to the success of BNPL services.

Job description

About OnePay
OnePay is the consumer fintech trusted by millions of Americans to make money better.
Our financial system is broken. High fees, low rates, and too few ways to actually grow your money. We're fixing it. And we're moving fast.
We're an all-in-one financial services platform that brings together banking, high-yield savings, credit cards, point-of-sale lending, investing, and crypto in one place. We also partner with employers, HCM providers, gig platforms, and others to deliver embedded financial services to millions of employees and frontline workers.
We're backed by Walmart, the world's largest retailer, and Ribbit Capital, one of fintech's most respected investors, giving us rare scale, distribution, and the opportunity to build something truly category-defining.
But what really sets OnePay apart is how we move. Our customers don't have time to wait... and neither do we. This place moves fast, and we're looking for people who are:
  • Ready to run
  • Hungry and driven by urgency
  • Exceptional at what they do, with low ego
  • Comfortable operating in motion

The Role
Product Managers at OnePay own and drive product work that directly impacts our customers' financial lives. Our PMs work on products across banking, buy now pay later (BNPL), payments, remittances, investing, and crypto, building and improving the core experiences our customers rely on every day. If making a huge impact and owning a product area while contributing to a broader, highly integrated ecosystem sounds exciting, this is the role for you! You will:
  • Own end-to-end product development from ideation through launch and iteration
  • Build and improve products across areas like high-yield savings, investing/crypto, peer-to-peer payments, and buy now, pay later (BNPL)
  • Partner closely with engineering, design, and data to ship high-quality, customer-facing features quickly
  • Use data and experimentation to make decisions and improve outcomes
  • Identify and drive opportunities to improve user experience, engagement, and financial outcomes

You Bring
  • 2 to 7 years of product management experience, ideally in consumer tech, fintech, or fast-growing environments
  • Knowledge and ability to use AI tools to accelerate development and deliver measurable output
  • Experience working on products such as banking, payments, lending, BNPL, or other consumer financial tools
  • A strong sense of urgency. You move quickly, make decisions with imperfect information, and focus on shipping to a timeline
  • A high level of ownership. You take responsibility for outcomes and drive work end to end
  • Ability to make solid product decisions without overthinking or over-relying on frameworks
  • Comfort with ambiguity, to make progress even when things are not fully defined
  • Low ego and strong collaboration skills
  • Drive and proactivity - everyone here is a builder and executorDrive and proactivity - everyone here is a builder and executor

What We Offer
  • Competitive base salary, stock options, and health benefits from Day 1
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • Remote-friendly (US), flexible time off (FTO), and opportunities for growth
  • A high-growth, mission-driven, inclusive culture where your work has real impact
