Job description

Overview

The BMET works in the Corporate Biomedical Services Department, which is responsible for the maintenance and management of medical equipment and systems throughout FirstHealth of the Carolinas and to contracted customers.  Work activities performed by the BMET include but are not limited to preventive maintenance inspections and medical equipment repairs with emphasis on patient safety, customer service, regulatory compliance and cost containment.   

Qualifications

Education and Formal Training: 

Associate Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics Engineering or related field preferred.  Equivalent military training or significant industry work experience accepted. 

Work Experience: 

Candidates who have successfully completed hospital-based internships as part of their education are preferred.  

Certification: 

  • CBET - ACI Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician certification is not required for the position of BMET.  Incumbents are strongly encouraged to pursue this certification 
  • Other industry certifications, such as CompTIA A+, Net+, or Security+ are encouraged. 

Additional Skills: 

  • Basic troubleshooting skills, including the use of service manuals, electronic documentation, test equipment, and diagnostic software 
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology  
  • Good mechanical skills 
  • Computer skills including use of email, spreadsheets, word processing, and computerized maintenance management systems and reporting 
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to quickly adjust to meet customer needs, which may involve working on unassigned equipment and assisting other technicians  
  • Valid Driver's license required.
