Summary

Under the direction of the Shift Supervisor, operates blow molding machinery used to manufacture plastic products. Primary assignments are training on large blow molding equipment, but will be required to operate other blow molding and all injection molding equipment and difficult molding jobs which require operator attention and knowledge to prevent mold and machine damage.

Responsibilities

  • Start and stop the machine and assist the set-up people in their duties, starting and breaking down set-ups.
  • Under the direction of Set-up or Supervisor, adjust controls, remedy minor leaks, and install molds and components.
  • Train to read and understand set-up sheets.
  • Under the direction of Set-up, regulate extruder speed, center parison, and perform related operations on blow molding machines.
  • Provide proper care of molds, recognize mold damage, and report production problems and unsatisfactory quality to Supervisor and Set-up.
  • Identify different resins and ensure proper material is used.
  • Perform post molding operations as appropriate, including inspecting products; trimming, reaming and drilling; grinding flash and rejected products molded.
  • Clean up work area including work table, machine components, and grinding system.
  • Keep accurate production and time records as required.
  • Perform duties as required by the Shift Supervisor.
  • Alert Supervisor or Set-up personnel when problems first begin.
  • Adhere to all company and departmental work and safety rules.
  • Operate any machine or operation in the assigned department.

Required Skills

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Previous extrusion blow molding experience with basic mold set-up and machine adjustments preferred.
  • Familiar with resins used in extrusion processing.
  • Familiarization with secondary equipment preferred.
  • Must be able to lift 35 lbs. minimum.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Able to adjust to changing operating conditions quickly and efficiently and vary pace as required.
