About Us
Global Impact Group LLC is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and ISO 9001 / ISO 17100 certified provider of interpretation and translation services. We deliver secure, high-quality language access in 80+ spoken and signed languages for USCIS and other federal agencies.
We are seeking Garifuna Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Garifuna, an indigenous Arawakan language with African and Carib influences, is spoken in Honduras, Belize, Guatemala, and Nicaragua, and is a rare but critical language frequently required in asylum and immigration interviews.
Responsibilities
  • Provide real-time Garifuna ↔ English telephonic interpretation for USCIS officers, applicants, and stakeholders.
  • Interpret accurately, impartially, and with cultural sensitivity in immigration and asylum contexts.
  • Maintain confidentiality under USCIS/DHS interpreter standards.
  • Support both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge interpretation needs.
  • Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality assurance audits.
Qualifications
  • Native or near-native fluency in Garifuna and English.
  • 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, asylum, community, NGO, or government preferred).
  • Strong cultural knowledge of Garifuna communities in Central America and the diaspora.
  • Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and neutrality standards.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 security clearance.
