Job description

Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology and Saint Meinrad Archabbey in southern Indiana seeks to hire an Associate Director of the Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library. Recently renovated, the library houses a print collection of approximately 165,000 volumes, as well as a shared print collection with 23 private academic libraries throughout Indiana and a wide range of electronic resources. The library plays a critical role in supporting the educational mission of the Seminary and School of Theology, which is the initial and ongoing formation of priests, permanent deacons, and laity to minister together effectively in the service and evangelization of the Roman Catholic Church and the world. It also supports the ongoing intellectual, pastoral, spiritual, and human formation of a vibrant community of Benedictine monks.

Candidates for the associate director position should possess the following:

  • Either advanced degree in religion or theology with significant library experience or MLS degree with significant study of theology or related subjects
  • Experience working with library resources supporting theological education or research
  • Understanding of scholarly resources supporting the study of religion and theology
  • Experience with managing and/or developing digital resources
  • Willingness to engage in user support and outreach
  • Ability to articulate a vision for theological library collecting in print and digital resources
  • Ability to assist with technical services, library systems, and collection management
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Understanding of Catholic tradition and commitment to Catholic seminary formation
  • Experience in a seminary, college, university, or related setting that demonstrates leadership ability and direct knowledge of library operations and academic research

Additional desirable qualifications:

  • Competence in modern and/or ancient languages
  • Experience with budget management and supervision of personnel
