Concrete batch plant operator is responsible for making quality concrete and providing it in a timely manner to the production crew. It is the batch plant operator's responsibility to ensure that all the concrete we produce meets the required specifications.
Position Description
The operator is responsible for the set up and tear down, operation, maintenance and record keeping of portable concrete batch plants. In addition to operating the plant, the operator will assist with the coordination of daily plant activities such as scheduling truck drivers and ordering plant materials. Operates concrete plant to batch materials used in Highway and bridge construction. Manages controls on control board to heat, dry, weigh and mix aggregate, cement, and water to produce concrete that conforms to processing specifications. May require the ability to repair machinery, using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment.
The following task are broken down into job responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.
Batch Concrete:
  • Calibrate batch plant (daily)
  • Fill aggregate hoppers, refill as needed.
  • Schedule filling aggregate bunkers and cement silo.
  • Keep area around batch plant clean
  • Maintain batch plant (grease bearings, replace conveyor belts,)

Operate mixer truck:
  • Operate the mixer truck, discharge the concrete.
  • Clean the mixer truck
  • Maintain mixer truck (check oil coolant/antifreeze daily, grease rollers regularly.
  • Chip out inside of mixer truck as needed.

Quality control:
  • Take moisture samples*
  • Calculate water/cement ratio and know the capability of our mixes.
  • Take test cylinders of concrete*
  • Break test Cylinders*
  • Keep records of all testing and batch tickets*
  • Know the admixtures we use and what their capabilities are.

Position Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • A minimum of 5 years concrete batching experience in ready mix or concrete paving and/or technical training or related experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of concrete batching technology, equipment, methods and safety is required.
  • Candidate must have excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • ACI concrete field testing technician grade 1 preferred
  • ACI concrete strength testing technician preferred
  • Must be willing to work 80+ hours a week, nights, and weekends during summer operations.
