Job description

AtWork Personnel is looking for a Compounder for our client in the Kalamazoo area. The role ensures quality and accurate compounding of flavors to be packaged and shipped to customers, sets up and operates production equipment in accordance with established procedures and guidelines, and reads and interprets formula instructions to select, position, and secure machinery.


2nd shift= 3pm-11:30pm Monday through Friday

Pay= $19-22/hr depending on experience level


Essential Job Functions

  • Operate machinery used in the production process or assist other Compounders and Packagers.
  • Observe equipment operations so that malfunctions can be detected and notify management of any malfunctions.
  • Prepare raw materials for processing.
  • Lift raw materials, finished products, and packed items, manually or using hoists.
  • Measure amounts of raw materials according to the formula and follow compounding instructions to achieve a quality finished product.
  • Dump raw materials into equipment prior to mixing.
  • Mix ingredients according to specified procedures and formulas.
  • Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards.
  • Maintain clean/safe work areas, machines, equipment, and product packaging according to safety and SQF standards (proper GMP’s and sanitary procedures).
  • Perform minor repairs to machines, such as replacing damaged or worn parts.
  • Share duties of disposing of office trash and recyclables and restocking supplies in the restroom, break room areas and on the production floor.
  • Warehouse clean-up.
  • Understands the packaging process in the correct order to be able to step in wherever necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements

Education: High school diploma (or GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Work Experience: 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Industry Knowledge: Food manufacturing or compounding experience helpful, but not required.

Personality and Communication (soft skills):

  • Must possess strong work ethic, high character and be passionate about serving others.
  • Ability to multi-task and perform accurately in stressful situations is ideal.
  • Attention to detail is critical.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are necessary as this position involves intense teamwork.

Hard skills:

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 lb. on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lb. on regular basis
  • Must be capable of completing training in:
    • Safety & HAZCOM
    • Forklift Training
    • GMP Training
    • Knife Policy Training
    • BioSecurity and Food Defense Training
    • Any other training needs that arise
