About the Agency: The Board of Cosmetology and Barbering serves as the regulatory body that oversees the instruction and practice of the professions of cosmetology, barbering, estheticians, and nail technicians in the state. The Board establishes rules and regulations related to qualifications for licensure, testing procedures, and ensure standards that benefit the consumer and protect public health. About the Position: The Mississippi Board of Cosmetology and Barbering is recruiting for a Compliance Inspector II position. This position is designated as statewide; however, the selected applicant will primarily serve assigned regions in South Mississippi.This is a field-based, journey-level compliance inspection position responsible for scheduling and conducting initial, annual, random, renewal, and follow-up inspections of licensed businesses or professions to ensure compliance with applicable state laws, rules, regulations, and licensing requirements.The incumbent will verify licensure for professionals and businesses, inspect establishments for compliance with licensure-related health and safety standards, and review business operations to determine conformity with applicable requirements.Compliance Inspectors work remotely but remain under the supervision and direction of the Mississippi Board of Cosmetology and Barbering, the Executive Director, or an appointed designee.Duties include traveling to inspection sites across Mississippi, conducting inspections and investigations as assigned, preparing detailed written reports, and submitting completed reports to the Board within seven days of the completion of the inspection or investigation.Inspection and investigation reports must follow the established Board format and be prepared in a manner that supports any subsequent administrative, legal, or enforcement action, including possible prosecution.Additional duties may include performing other related responsibilities as assigned.
What you'll need to be Successful: The successful candidate should demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, integrity, ethical conduct, honesty, and transparency in the performance of assigned duties.The candidate should be able to work independently in a remote and field-based environment while maintaining effective communication with supervisors, agency staff, licensees, business owners, and members of the public.Strong verbal and written communication skills, public relations skills, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail are essential. The successful candidate should also possess investigative skills and the ability to prepare clear, accurate, and detailed inspection or investigation reports.The candidate should be willing to work as part of a team and support the overall mission and regulatory responsibilities of the Mississippi Board of Cosmetology and Barbering.The successful candidate should be familiar with Microsoft Office or similar software applications and must have reliable internet access.
