Job Summary:
The Bar Manager is responsible for the day-to-day execution of the bar program, ensuring consistency, quality, and efficiency across all shifts. This role supports the bar team in maintaining operational standards and team performance while upholding the bar’s identity and approach to service. The Bar Manager plays a key role in translating direction into execution, maintaining a strong presence on the floor, and ensuring the bar operates at a high level at all times.
This role is accountable for maintaining structure within the bar team, ensuring clear communication, proper execution of systems, and consistent performance across all shifts. It also plays a part in shaping the overall experience through cocktail development, weekly programming, and in-house activations, bringing a level of creative direction to how the bar operates day to day. A safe and welcoming environment for both guests and staff is expected at all times. Success is measured by execution, team reliability, cost control, and overall bar performance.
 

Key Areas of Responsibility

Reports To: General Manager, Director of Operations, Owner(s) 

Leadership & Presence
Lead by example on the floor, setting the tone for professionalism, urgency, and attention to detail. Maintain strong relationships with guests, staff, community, and industry peers.
Support a clear chain of command within the bar team, reinforcing expectations and maintaining structure during service. Remain present during key operating hours and lead service from the front.
 

Bar Operations
Oversee daily bar operations to ensure consistency in execution, speed, and quality. Ensure all systems related to prep, batching, service, and breakdown are followed.
Identify inefficiencies in workflow or execution and adjust as needed. Maintain control of the bar without becoming overly task-focused.
 

Guest Experience
Ensure a high level of hospitality is maintained at the bar at all times. Address guest feedback directly and maintain composure during high-volume service.
Support systems that drive consistency in service and guest interaction.

Cocktail Program
Execute and maintain the cocktail program to the standards set by the company.
Support cocktail development through the Thunderbolt lens, ensuring drinks are consistent, executable, and aligned with the bar’s identity. Maintain recipe accuracy, prep standards, and presentation across all shifts. Stay current with beverage development while keeping execution practical.
 

Team Development & Management
Train and develop bartenders and support staff to meet performance standards. Provide clear expectations and direct feedback.
Ensure proper staffing levels and support scheduling needs in coordination with the General Manager. Address performance issues in real time and maintain accountability within the team.
Build a team environment that supports consistency, reliability, and strong morale.
 

Financial Awareness
Support cost control efforts across liquor, labor, and waste.
Maintain awareness of product usage, ordering, and prep to avoid overproduction or loss. Support the General Manager in achieving financial targets through proper execution.
 

Inventory & Product Management
Oversee inventory counts, ordering, and organization of all bar products. Ensure accuracy and consistency in inventory systems.
Maintain proper storage, labeling, and rotation of product. Hold the team accountable for waste and misuse.
 

Compliance & Standards
Ensure all bar operations follow health, safety, and alcohol service regulations.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of all bar areas at all times. Standards should remain consistent across all shifts.
 

Events & Execution
Support execution of events, pop-ups, and large-format service. Ensure the bar is properly staffed and prepped for increased volume.
Maintain consistency in execution regardless of service format.
 

Operations & Quality Control
Address issues within bar operations directly, identifying breakdowns and correcting them with clear follow-through.
Conduct regular quality control checks across cocktails, prep, and service execution to ensure standards are consistently met.
 


Systems & Daily Execution
Ensure all opening, closing, and prep systems are completed correctly and consistently.
Maintain a level of organization that allows the bar to operate smoothly regardless of staffing.

Take ownership of the bar’s performance and execution, with a focus on consistency and follow-through. Communicate clearly and directly with both the team and leadership. Maintain a high level of professionalism while building a strong and supportive team environment. Approach the role with sound judgment, balancing operational needs with team dynamics. Lead by example and set a standard that the team can consistently meet. 

Essential Functions/Position Qualifications

  • Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 30 lbs
  • Ability to raise a tray weighing up to 25 lbs to shoulder height
  • Able to bend, stoop, reach, wipe, lift, and grab
  • Must have sufficient mobility to move and operate in work area
  • Must be able to stand and walk throughout a 4 to 8 hour shift
  • Must be able to hear well in a loud environment to respond to employee and guest needs
  • Must meet any state, county or municipal regulation pertaining to health risk concerns about food handling
  • Must be able to observe and differentiate between monetary denominations
  • Must be able to serve all menu products
  • Must be able to operate point of sale system
  • Must be able to work around potentially hazardous chemicals
  • Minimum Age requirements of 21.
  • Able to work in a team environment.
  • Meets uniform and grooming standards and maintains them throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to pass all required tests and training requirements.
  • Must meet any state, country or municipal regulation pertaining to health risk concerns about food handling and legal requirements for serving alcohol.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, nights and weekends.
  • Possesses excellent guest service skills.
  • Able to learn basic tasks and follow instructions.
