JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

This position is responsible for leading a team of Business Bankers focused on the growth of business banking relationships through the sale of loans, deposit accounts, and treasury services. The Business Banking Team Lead provides day-to-day leadership, coaching, and mentoring to support production, portfolio growth, sound credit practices, and an exceptional client experience. This role works closely with Business Bankers on calling activity, pipeline management, deal discussion, loan structure, pricing, relationship strategy, and partner engagement across Credit, Treasury Management, Retail, Operations, and other internal teams. The Business Banking Team Lead is also responsible for identifying and implementing process improvements that enhance efficiency, consistency, risk management, and service delivery, while supporting the growth and development of direct reports through regular feedback, one-on-one meetings, and performance management.

  • Leads, coaches, and develops a team of Business Bankers in support of production goals, relationship growth, and a strong sales culture.
  • Drives the growth of business banking relationships through the origination of loans, deposit accounts, and treasury services.
  • Provides ongoing coaching and mentoring related to business development, calling strategies, pipeline management, cross-sell execution, and overall relationship management.
  • Partners with Business Bankers on deal discussion, credit structuring, pricing, negotiation strategy, and exception identification to support sound, competitive transactions.
  • Works closely with Credit partners and other internal stakeholders to facilitate effective underwriting, approval, closing, and portfolio management processes.
  • Promotes disciplined portfolio management and credit quality by reinforcing sound underwriting standards, appropriate risk identification, and adherence to the Bank’s loan policy and approval guidelines.
  • Collaborates with Treasury Management, Retail, Operations, and other business partners to deliver comprehensive client solutions and a coordinated customer experience.
  • Monitors team performance, sales activity, pipeline trends, and results, and provides regular reporting, feedback, and performance direction as needed.
  • Identifies, recommends, and implements process improvements that increase efficiency, consistency, service quality, and scalability across the business banking function.
  • Ensures team adherence to applicable policies, procedures, compliance requirements, and regulatory standards, including those related to credit, documentation, and Bank Secrecy Act obligations.
  • Supports talent development through regular one-on-one meetings, performance coaching, training, and annual performance reviews.
  • Serves as a resource for complex client relationships, escalated issues, and strategic business banking opportunities.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has supervisory responsibilities.


Work Environment

This job operates in an office setting, the opportunity to telework is not available. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Office environment with job duties conducted via telephone, face to face meetings, and on the computer.


Physical Demands

This position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files and open cabinets. This position requires bending, stooping or standing as necessary.


Travel

Travel is required for this position.

This position is classified as exempt, and as such it is paid on a salaried basis. The pay range for this position is $100,000 - $165,000 for Alexandria, Virginia and $100,000 - $130,000 for Salisbury and Preston, Maryland locations.


This position is classified as full-time and the benefits package includes health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance. Employees may select from coverage options which range from employee only to family coverage. Full-time employees receive Paid Time Off (PTO), a paid holiday schedule, paid bereavement, and paid parental leave. Benefits also include company paid life insurance and paid long-term disability coverage. Our bank also offers a 401(k) with a company match.



Education and Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in business banking, commercial lending, or a related financial services role required.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field, or equivalent additional relevant experience.
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred, including coaching and developing sales or relationship management teams.
  • Experience with business development, credit structuring, pricing, treasury management partnership, and portfolio management is strongly preferred.
