Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technologist (MT/MLS) to join the Laboratory Services team at W. W. Hastings Hospital. The selected candidate will perform a wide range of laboratory tests and procedures that support accurate diagnosis, treatment, and patient care. This position requires strong technical expertise, analytical skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment while maintaining the highest standards of quality and patient safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and complex laboratory testing in accordance with established laboratory procedures.
- Analyze and interpret laboratory results, ensuring accuracy and reliability before reporting.
- Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Conduct quality control and quality assurance procedures to meet regulatory standards.
- Collect, process, and prepare patient specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Recognize abnormal results and communicate critical values promptly to healthcare providers.
- Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and patient records.
- Adhere to infection control, safety, and OSHA/CAP/CLIA regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in laboratory performance improvement and quality initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related laboratory field.
- Current MT/MLS certification through ASCP, AMT, or equivalent (preferred or required per facility policy).
- Minimum 1โ2 years of recent clinical laboratory experience in an acute care hospital.
- Experience performing testing in:
- Hematology
- Chemistry
- Blood Bank
- Microbiology
- Urinalysis
- Strong knowledge of laboratory safety, quality assurance, and regulatory standards.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous travel laboratory experience.
- Experience with Cerner or other Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, or additional shifts if required.
Required Certifications
- MT/MLS Certification (ASCP, AMT, or equivalent)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (if required by the facility)
