Avionics Systems Engineer (Associate or Mid-Level)

Boeing Global Services (BGS) is seeking an Avionics Systems Engineer (Associate or Mid-Level) to join our dynamic team in Long Beach, CA. This position is part of the C-17 Military Airlifter Program within the Avionics/Flight Management & Software Engineering organization. As an Avionics Systems Engineer, you will develop and apply engineering knowledge, principles, tools, and techniques to implement a series of upgrades and improvements to the C-17 Globemaster III aircraft.
Changes in avionics technology including obsolescence necessitate continuous upgrades and engineering evaluations of current and future capabilities. The selected candidate will rapidly integrate into the team and employ an interdisciplinary approach to the analysis, design, development, system-level testing, verification, and validation of the C-17 Flight Management System (FMS) and other avionics systems.
Position Responsibilities
  • Avionics Systems Engineering position for the C-17 Military Airlifter Program within the Avionics/Flight Management & Software Engineering organization, located in Long Beach, California. Changes in Avionics technology require continuous upgrade and engineering evaluation of present/future capability. As an Avionics Systems Engineer, the selected candidate will rapidly integrate into the team and apply an interdisciplinary approach to the analysis, design, development, system level test/verification and validation of the C-17 Flight Management System (FMS). In addition, the candidate will apply job principles, theories, and concepts to contribute to the field investigations and new capability development for the C-17.
  • Tasks will broaden upon candidate's knowledge in aviation, including areas such as navigation and localization (position awareness), guidance and flight controls, and federal and military regulations and policies, and will expand as the candidate grows within the domain. This job will build expertise in aircraft technologies that are both industry standards and C-17 specific.
  • The primary subject matter for this role will be the Flight Management System, which is responsible for Flight Planning/navigation, guidance, control, display, and automation of aircraft operations. A successful candidate in this position will be able to demonstrate excellent technical and communication skills while being aware of the business constraints.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 1+ years of experience designing, developing, testing, qualifying electrical/electronic systems
  • Classroom or work related programming experience with any of the following software development languages: Ada, C, C++, C#, JAVA, and Python

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • 3+ years of higher education and/or related work experience.(Higher education includes college, university, technical school, licensing/certification programs, etc.)
    2+ years of full-time aerospace industry experience with Avionics, Flight Management System and Electrical Systems
  • Experience with Agile
  • Experience working with DOORS, ClearQuest
  • Experience with Confluence, Jira, Version One
  • Experience presenting data to both technical and non-technical customers
  • Experience working/leading software development programs
  • Experience working with geographically diverse teams
  • Experience with analyzing aircraft data
  • Knowledge of how to derive and allocate system requirements and show traceability
  • Experience with MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC-429 communication protocols
  • Have one of the following: Military/Commercial Aircrew experience, Private Pilot License, or Flight Instructor certification
