What is an aviation recruiter?

An aviation recruiter is a professional who specializes in finding, interviewing, and hiring qualified candidates for positions within the aviation industry, such as pilots, mechanics, engineers, and administrative staff. They work with airlines, airports, aviation manufacturers, and other organizations to fill both technical and non-technical roles. Aviation recruiters use their industry knowledge to identify talent, assess qualifications, and ensure candidates meet regulatory and safety requirements. Their goal is to match the right candidates with the right aviation jobs to help companies operate safely and efficiently.

How does an aviation recruiter typically collaborate with hiring managers and technical teams during the recruitment process?

Aviation Recruiters work closely with hiring managers and technical teams to ensure candidates meet the specific technical and regulatory requirements of aviation roles. They often participate in intake meetings to define job requirements, coordinate interview schedules, and provide feedback on candidate suitability. Effective communication and understanding of both HR practices and aviation industry standards are essential. This collaboration helps ensure the recruitment process is efficient and results in high-quality hires who are well-suited for the unique demands of aviation environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an aviation recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Aviation Recruiter, you need strong knowledge of aviation roles, recruiting best practices, and typically a bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), aviation industry databases, and relevant HR certifications like SHRM-CP or PHR is highly valuable. Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and organizational skills help build relationships with both candidates and hiring managers. These competencies ensure the recruitment of qualified aviation professionals who meet industry standards, supporting organizational growth and regulatory compliance.

At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA.
