Role Description
The Director of Procurement is responsiblefor leading and developing the procurement organization while driving strategicsourcing initiatives that support operational excellence, cost optimization,and continuity of supply across the business. This role partners closely withexecutive leadership and cross-functional departments to align procurementstrategies with organizational objectives supporting aircraft completion,maintenance, engineering, and fabrication operations and supplierrelationships, contract negotiations, purchasing strategy, and global sourcingactivities to ensure the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials,equipment, and services. This role is also responsible for maximizing rebateopportunities, supplier incentive programs, and overall purchasing efficienciesto improve gross profit performance and operational execution.
Essential Job Functions
Leadership and Organizational Development
• Lead, mentor, and develop the procurementand purchasing organization, fostering accountability, collaboration, andcontinuous improvement.
• Establish departmental performanceobjectives, KPIs, and operational metrics aligned with company goals.
• Develop and implement procurement bestpractices, policies, and standardized processes across the organization.
• Build and scale a procurement organizationcapable of supporting complex global aviation operations and future businessgrowth.
• Promote a culture focused on operationalexcellence, customer service, compliance, and cost discipline.
Procurement Strategy, Cost, and RiskManagement
• Develop and execute procurement strategiessupporting aircraft completion, maintenance, engineering, and productionoperations.
• Drive cost containment, margin improvement,and operational efficiency initiatives while ensuring quality, lead-timeperformance, and continuity of supply.
• Identify and mitigate supply chain risksincluding long lead-time constraints, sole-source suppliers, materialshortages, and capacity limitations.
• Establish sourcing governance, procurementcontrols, and supplier compliance standards to ensure operational consistencyand regulatory adherence.
• Monitor procurement trends, marketconditions, and supplier performance to support strategic sourcing decisions.
• Support inventory optimization initiativeswhile balancing operational readiness and working capital objectives.
Supplier and Vendor Partnerships
• Serve as the primary corporate liaison withkey suppliers, vendors, and service providers.
• Lead supplier selection, qualification,contract negotiations, and long-term supplier relationship managementactivities.
• Maximize vendor rebate programs, preferredsupplier agreements, and strategic sourcing incentives to improveprofitability.
• Develop strategic supplier partnerships thatsupport reliability, innovation, scalability, and competitive pricing.
• Conduct supplier performance reviews andimplement corrective action plans when necessary to improve delivery, quality,and service levels.
Cross-Functional and Operational Execution
• Partner closely with executive leadership,operations, engineering, finance, planning, and program management teams toalign procurement activities with company objectives.
• Ensure procurement execution supportsaircraft production schedules, customer commitments, and operationalpriorities.
• Oversee day-to-day purchasing activities asrequired, resolving escalations and supply chain disruptions impactingoperations.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, capitalplanning, and make-versus-buy decision-making processes.
• Collaborate with Quality, Compliance, andSupply Chain teams to ensure adherence to FAA, AS9100, and other regulatoryrequirements.
Minimum Qualifications, Education andExperience
• Bachelor's degree in BusinessAdministration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Aviation Management, orrelated field required.
• Minimum of 8-10 years of progressiveprocurement, purchasing, or supply chain experience.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of leadershipexperience managing procurement or supply chain teams.
• Prior experience in aviation, aerospace,MRO, manufacturing, construction, or other highly regulated industrialenvironments strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated expertise in strategicsourcing, supplier relationship management, contract negotiation, and costreduction initiatives.
• Proven ability to build, lead, and develophigh-performing procurement organizations.
• Experience supporting operational growth,transformation initiatives, or private equity-backed environments is preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities
• Strong leadership, organizationaldevelopment, and team-building capabilities.
• Strong financial and commercial acumen withdemonstrated ability to improve margins and manage complex spend categories.
• Comprehensive understanding of procurementstrategy, sourcing methodologies, inventory management, and supply chainoperations.
• Excellent negotiation, supplier management,and contract administration skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, anddecision-making capabilities.
• Ability to influence and collaborateeffectively with executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Excellent verbal and written communicationskills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in afast-paced operational environment.
• Proficiency with ERP systems, procurementsoftware, Microsoft Office applications, and reporting tools.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing andcontinuous improvement methodologies preferred.
• Ability to travel domestically andinternationally as required.
Work Environment
This position is based in an aircraft hangarenvironment and may involve:
