Job description

About the Role

We're looking for a technically savvy, customer-focused Sales Engineer & Estimator who enjoys helping clients solve problems, designing practical solutions, and building accurate project budgets that turn opportunities into successful projects.

This role sits within our Business Development Team and serves as the technical bridge between our Account Executives, customers, and Operations team.

After an Account Executive qualifies an opportunity and develops an initial Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) budget, you step in to help customers define their requirements, evaluate solutions, refine project budgets, and help develop professional proposals that lead to profitable project wins.

You'll be part consultant, part solutions engineer, part estimator, and part trusted advisor.

With every position, we look for teammates who share our core values: Can-Do-IT Attitude, Desire to Own IT, and Pride in Doing IT Right!

Resumes sent without a cover letter will not be considered.

Responsibilities of a Sales Engineer & Estimator

Customer Discovery & Solution Development

  • Meet with customers to better understand project goals and operational needs.
  • Conduct site assessments and technology evaluations.
  • Help customers define project scope and requirements.
  • Recommend technology solutions aligned with customer objectives and budgets.
  • Develop conceptual and detailed system designs.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities.
  • Serve as a technical resource throughout the sales process.

Technology Studio Tours & Customer Experience

  • Host and facilitate Tech Studio demonstrations.
  • Showcase AV, Security, DAS, and Communications solutions.
  • Build customer confidence through education and consultation.
  • Support proposal presentations and solution reviews.

Estimating & Budget Development

  • Refine budgets from ROM estimates into detailed proposals.
  • Develop labor estimates using company productivity standards.
  • Perform material takeoffs and pricing analysis.
  • Develop scope clarifications, assumptions, and exclusions.
  • Ensure estimates align with operational execution requirements.
  • Support negotiated and design-build opportunities.

Proposal Development

  • Collaborate with Account Executives on proposal strategy.
  • Develop solution narratives and project scopes.
  • Assist with customer presentations and proposal reviews.
  • Support contract scope clarification discussions.

Operations Alignment

  • Work closely with Project Managers and Operations teams.
  • Ensure project assumptions are documented and communicated.
  • Participate in project turnover meetings.
  • Support change order pricing and scope reviews.
  • Help improve estimating accuracy through project feedback.

Qualifications:

Required

·        3+ years of experience in one or more of the following:

o   Low Voltage Systems

o   Structured Cabling

o   Security Systems

o   Access Control

o   Video Surveillance

o   AV Systems

o   DAS/Wireless Systems

·        Ability to read construction drawings and specifications.

·        Strong communication and presentation skills.

·        Customer-facing professionalism.

·        Strong organizational and time-management skills.

·        Ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously.

Preferred

·        Experience supporting commercial construction projects.

·        Knowledge of manufacturer product lines and system integration.

·        Experience in design-build or negotiated project delivery.

·        Understanding of labor productivity and project execution.

The Ideal Candidate

You might be a great fit if you:

·        Enjoy working directly with customers.

·        Can translate technical concepts into practical business solutions.

·        Are comfortable leading conversations and asking questions.

·        Like solving problems and building trust.

·        Understand both technology and construction.

·        Have strong attention to detail without losing sight of the big picture.

·        Want to help grow a business, not just estimate projects.

Corporate support:

Integrated Building Systems supports its team members with great benefits:

·        A clear mission, goals, and accountability fueled by the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS).

·        Commitment to your success, including training and professional development.
